Coast Guard Continues Support in Haiti

The U.S. Coast Guard, the first Department of Homeland Security agency to provide assistance to Haiti following Tuesday's earthquake, continues to provide support Thursday to the U.S. Government's humanitarian assistance and disaster response efforts. The Homeland Security Task Force-Southeast has been activated in the U.S. Coast Guard 7th District. Based in Miami, this task force will be responsible for supporting U.S. Agency for International Development relief efforts and will be under the direction of Rear Adm. Robert Branham who is also the commanding officer of the Coast Guard's 7th District. U.S. Coast Guard C-130 fixed-wing aircraft and HH-60 helicopters evacuated 142 U.S. citizens to the Dominican Republic Thursday,  and medevaced seven U.S. citizens to Florida.

Unified Support Conducts Exercise

Personnel from Coast Guard Station Islamorada, Fla., intercept a south bound go-fast vessel, played by the Coast Guard Auxiliary, as part of Unified Support '07 exercise yesterday off Islamorada Homeland Security Task Force Southeast (HSTF-SE) maintains the operational plan for mass migration from a Caribbean nation called Operation Vigilant Sentry (OVS). The plan details the actions HSTF-SE will take to deter mass migration, respond to a mass migration and restore normal operations.

Coast Guard Atlantic Change of Command Set for May 9

Vice Adm. D. Brian Peterman will assume command of the Coast Guard Atlantic Area during a Change of Command ceremony at 10 a.m. May 9, at the Integrated Support Command, Portsmouth, Va. Vice Adm. Peterman will relieve Vice Adm. Vivien S. Crea, who assumed command of Atlantic Area July 16, 2004. She has been appointed to Vice Commandant, the Coast Guard’s second-in-command position, and will transfer to Coast Guard Headquarters, Washington, D.C. As Commander, Atlantic Area, Vice Adm. Peterman will be responsible for all Coast Guard activities within the eastern half of the world ranging from the Rocky Mountains to the Arabian Gulf and spanning five Coast Guard Districts…
