International Cruise and Yachting Festival Planned for November
Hong Kong’s first-ever cruise and yachting event, International Cruise and Yachting Festival (Hong Kong) 2018, is scheduled to be held from November 22 to 25 at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, Kai Tak Runway Park and Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter. The four-day event, organized by the Hong Kong Cruise and Yacht Industry Association, will bring together global cruise and yacht brands and boats with Maritime Education and Employment, Marine and Leisure Tourism and Maritime Industry Developments as the major focuses.
Emission Policies Update
An overview of worldwide emission control policies and technologies has been presented at an international workshop in Hong Kong, China (14 to 16 December 2016). International Maritime Organization (IMO)'s Heike Deggim outlined the current regulations and recent work in the Marine Environment Protection Committee to an audience of government officials, international shipping industry representatives, academics and environmental non-governmental organizations. The presentation covered IMO regulations to control air pollution emissions from ships, including SOx and NOx, and energy efficiency requirements, aimed at cutting CO2 emissions from international shipping.
American Club Strengthens Asia Presence
Katherine Wang, who is well known in Asian P&I circles, has joined the American Club as assistant vice president and marketing manager for Greater China and Northern Asia. In the first instance she will be stationed in the Hong Kong office of the club's managers, Shipowners Claims Bureau, and thereafter will be deployed to Dalian in Northern China - where in fact she graduated from Dalian Maritime University, obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in International Shipping Transportation. Ms Wang joins SCB from another international group P&I club, where she was employed as an underwriter. Prior to that, she worked at China Shipping (Hong Kong) Marine Co. Ltd. in its chartering department, specialising in the dry bulk sector.
UNCTAD Convening Expert Meeting on "Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation"
The UNCTAD secretariat is convening an Ad Hoc Expert Meeting on "Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation: A Challenge for Global Ports", to be held in Geneva on 29-30 September 2011. Following earlier related activities (see www.unctad.org/ttl/legal, under "Meetings"), the two-day meeting aims to provide a platform for expert discussions on how best to improve the understanding of climate change impacts on ports and develop effective and appropriate adaptation response measures. Regional Training Course Held in Hong Kong
A regional training course on marine casualty investigation began on June 3 in Hong Kong, following a reception officiated by the Acting Director of Marine, Tsang Man-ching. The two-week course, to be held from today until next Friday (June 14) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, is jointly organized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG) for practicing marine accident investigators from countries in the Asia and Pacific Islands Region. Speaking at the reception, the Acting Director of Marine, Tsang Man-ching, said: " Our main objective in providing technical co-operation to IMO is to contribute our effort in enhancing standards of international shipping.
