HK & Taiwan Launch Cruise Line Subsidy Fund
The fund, which will take effect on April 1st, 2014, and run for three years, will be made up of contributions from participating ports and used to subsidize cruise companies to develop and market their cruise products. A major requirement is that cruise lines must deploy vessels to at least two participating ports or territories in a single itinerary. Hong Kong Plans to Add High-Value Maritime Services
In his annual policy address to the Hong Kong SAR Legislative Council, Chief Executive C Y Leung pledged that the Government would continue to improve port facilities and enhance the efficiency of port operations, thereby seizing the opportunities brought by the growth of trade in the Mainland and Asia. "The logistics industry has flourished in recent years. Ten hectares of land have been set aside in Tuen Mun West for logistics use. Land will also be earmarked in new development areas for the construction of modern logistics facilities.
Austal Delivers Fast Twins for Hong Kong Fleet
Austal has delivered its latest high speed passenger catamarans to a market that did much to establish the Australian shipbuilder as a world leader in the design and construction of high speed ferries. Hong Kong based New World First Ferry Services (Macau) Limited accepted delivery of two 47.5 metre passenger catamarans at the beginning of September, taking the total number of Austal-built vessels in its fleet to seven. Officiating at the colourful Launching Ceremony at Hong Kong’s Dragon Cruise Pier and at Macau Ferry Terminal were Mr R C L Footman, JP, Commissioner for Transport of Hong Kong SAR Government and Mr Ao Man Long, Secretary for Transport and Public Works of Macau SAR Government.
