Cadeler Secures Loan to Fund Offshore Wind Vessel Construction & Upgrades

Danish offshore wind installation services company Cadeler said Monday it had entered into an unsecured green loan facility with HSBC. The purpose of the loan facility is, among others, to fund Cadeler’s construction of the X-class and F-class newbuild vessels and the upgrade of the existing O-class vessels with new cranes. MSC Gulsun Arrives Rotterdam Port

World's largest container ship the MSC Gülsün arrived yesterday (August 03) at the APMT 2 terminal quay in the Rotterdam harbour and will remain there until Thursday afternoon.The vessel, 400 meters long and with a beam of 62 meters, has a 23,756-TEU (twenty-foot standard containers) capacity, making it the world’s largest container ship.MSC Gülsün is the first container ship capable of transporting 24 containers side by side across the breadth of its hull. World’s Largest Box Ship Visits Rotterdam

World’s largest container ship MSC Gülsün will visit port of Rotterdam. The ship will be calling on the APMT2 terminal at Maasvlakte 2 in Rotterdam on Tuesday, 3 September, between 2 and 3 p.m.With a length of 400 meters and a width of 62 meters, this vessel has a capacity of 23,756 TEU (20-foot standard containers), making it the largest container ship in the world.MSC Gülsün is the first vessel of its kind that can transport 24 containers side by side across the breadth of its hull.Until recently, the 21,413-TEU OOCL HongKong, which was taken into service two years ago, ranked as the world’s largest container ship.MSC Gulsun is 400 meter long and 61.5 meter wide ship can carry 23,756 standard containers (TEU), including 2,000 refrigerated containers.

Mayer Brown Advises on HK FSRU Project

Law firm Mayer Brown advised CLP Power Hong Kong on the Hong Kong offshore LNG terminal project, which involves the use of floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) technology for the first time in Hong Kong. The FSRU will receive, store, and regasify LNG into two separate subsea gas pipelines to supply natural gas to Castle Peak Power Company Limited and Hongkong Electric Co., Ltd., generating power for Hong Kong residents.Mayer Brown advised CLP Power Hong Kong Limited on the FSRU charter and regasification agreements and operation and maintenance services to be provided to the offshore LNG terminal with Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), one of the world's largest shipping operators.

Two RAstar 3200 Vessels Christened in HK

Hongkong Salvage & Towage, a division of HUD Group, has added two new high-performance tugs to their fleet.A press release from Robert Allan Ltd.(RAL) said that RAstar 3200 vessels, designed by RAL, which are named MAI PO and SUNG KONG, are the most powerful harbor tugs operating in Hong Kong harbour.The tugs were built by Cheoy Lee Shipyards and join four other Robert Allan Ltd. designs, also built by Cheoy Lee, it said."The RAstar escort/offshore terminal tug designation is reserved for a distinctive class of very high-performance ASD tugs," claimed RAL.The tugs are designed and built in accordance with Lloyd’s Register of Shipping.The tugs exceeded the Owner’s requirements at sea trials…

MOL Signs FSRU Charter Deal

Japanese shipping transport company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a charter deal with Hong Kong LNG Terminal Limited for a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).The FSRU would be used for the Hong Kong Offshore LNG Terminal Project (HKOLNG Project), which is a joint venture established by  Castle Peak Power Company Limited (CAPCO) and The Hongkong Electric Co., Ltd. Hong Kong Firms Sign LNG Deals

Hong Kong's power firms Castle Peak Power Company Limited (CAPCO) and The Hongkong Electric Co., Ltd. Keppel Posts Lower Profits

The Singaporean offshore and marine conglomerate Keppel Corporation reported a net profit of S$203 million (USD 150mln) for the first three months of 2019, 40% below that of S$337 million for 1Q 2018.In 1Q 2018, the Group benefitted from a S$289 million gain arising from the en-bloc sale of Keppel Cove in Zhongshan, China as compared to gains of S$174 million in the current period from the divestment of a 70% interest in Dong Nai Waterfront City, Vietnam and the re-measurement of previously held interests in M1 Limited (M1) at acquisition date.The Group achieved revenue of S$1,531 million for 1Q 2019, which was $61 million or 4% higher than that of 1Q 2018.

Container Terminal Operators Forms Hong Kong Seaport Alliance

Bangladesh Ship Recycling Project: Second Phase Begins

The second phase of an International Maritime Organization (IMO) -implemented project to enhance safe and environmentally sound ship recycling in Bangladesh has been launched with the first Project Executive Committee meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh (2 July). The SENSREC Project Phase II - Capacity Building, funded under a US$1.1 million agreement with Norway, will focus on legal and institutional analysis of ship recycling in the country and will develop a roadmap for the Government of Bangladesh to accede to the 2009 Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (HongKong Convention). The two-year project will also provide training for workers in ship recycling yards, supervisors and government officials.

Navios Maritime Partners Sells Hyundai Hongkong

Navios Maritime Partners, an international owner and operator of container and dry bulk vessels, announced that it has agreed to sell the Hyundai Hongkong, a 2006-built, 6,800 TEU containership for a total net sale price of $36.0 million to the group company Navios Maritime Containers. The vessel is chartered out at a weighted average net daily charter rate of $28,523 until December 2023. Navios Containers is expected to finance the acquisition with additional borrowings of approximately $15.0 million under a new loan from a commercial bank (on terms consistent with existing credit facilities). The vessel is expected to be delivered to Navios Containers in the third quarter of 2018.

Leaking Bulk Carrier Towed into Tallinn

A cargo ship that sprung a leak in the Gulf of Finland last week has been towed into the port of Tallinn. The Finnish Boarder Guard said several meters of water had flooded into the engine room and one of the cargo compartments of a Panamanian-flagged bulk carrier Glory Hongkong sailing in international waters to the west of Suursaari island en route to St Petersburg. Pumping equipment was used to drain the cargo compartment, and the leak between the engine room and the cargo hold was stopped. No oil leaked from the ship into the sea at any stage.

New Ship Building Orders for Korean Yards

South Korean shipyards emerged on top for new orders in April, Business Korea reported quoting industry data. The global total amount of new shipbuilding orders reached 750,000 CGT last month and 340,000 CGT and 260,000 CGT went to South Korean and Chinese shipbuilders, respectively. Japanese shipyard orders came to nil. In terms of numbers, Korean shipyards clinched new orders to build 12 ships. South Korea took the largest portion of very large crude oil carrier (VLCC) orders placed in quantity early last month, said the report. In the January-April period, South Korean shipyards secured 1.23 million CGTs worth of new orders to build 34 ships. China took the top slot with 1.43 million CGTs, or 78 ships, says HongKong Standard.

Hanjin Ship Unloads, New Funds Pledged

A Hanjin Shipping Co Ltd vessel is finishing unloading in California and scheduled to leave port on Monday, shipping industry officials said, as shareholders and executives associated with the South Korean firm pledged funds to help resolve the turmoil created by its collapse. The Hanjin Greece docked in Long Beach on Saturday after a U.S. bankruptcy court granted it protection and terminal operators agreed to take it. Truck drivers probably will begin moving containers from the Greece on Monday while the vessel prepares to leave late in the day for the Port of Oakland, said Teamsters spokeswoman Barbara Maynard and shipping traffic controllers.

CMA CGM Keeps Buying NOL Shares

French liner giant CMA CGM has acquired last week a total of 2.26 million shares in Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), six months before it is scheduled to make good its S$3.4 billion takeover bid for the Singapore-listed liner, reports Business Times. It acquired 1.33 million (0.05 per cent stake) at $1.233 apiece) and 930,700 shares (0.04 per cent) at S$1.235 each on Jan 4 and Jan 5 respectively. This information was revealed by CMA CGM's financial advisers comprising the Singapore branches of BNP Paribas and The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation as well as JP Morgan. Marseilles-based container shipping group now has a 1.18% stake in NOL according to Singapore Exchange disclosures.

HK Dockers Threaten to Strike Over Wages

The Hong Kong Dockers Union has threatened industrial action - that may involve a strike - if operators continue to ignore their demand for a 8.5-percent wage increase this year. The union is an affiliate of the Confederation of Trade Unions and made their demands known at the start of the month. The union seeks dialogue with contractors if they want to avoid a repeat of the strike that rocked the Kwai Tsing container terminals for 40 days in 2013. But there's been no response from operators. An organising secretary with the Union, Wong Yu-loy, said they're seeking talks with management first but will step up their action if there's no response. The 2013 strike ended when dockworkers working at Hongkong International Terminals agreed on a 9.8% pay increase.

HK:Prevention of Ship Garbage Pollution

The Hong Kong SAR Marine Department has advised that on 1 July the existing Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Pollution by Garbage) Regulation (Cap 413J) was replaced by a new Regulation, namely, the Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Pollution by Garbage) Regulation (Cap 413O) giving effect to the latest requirements of the MARPOL Annex V -- Prevention of Pollution by Garbage from Ships. This new regulation applies to ships within Hong Kong waters and Hong Kong registered ships wherever they are. Details of Cap 413O can be found from the website - www.legislation.gov.hk/eng/home.htm. 2.2 a ship of 12 metres or more in length overall must display a Garbage Discharge Placard (GDP) onboard to notify crew and passengers of the garbage discharge requirements.

Sea Parade in Hong Kong on 1 October 2014

A flag raising ceremony will be held at 0800 hours on 1 October 2014 at the Golden Bauhinia Square outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China. During the ceremony, a sea parade made up of launches of the disciplinary services will proceed from Causeway Bay to HKCEC between 0745 hours and 0805 hours, and display water jets off HKCEC at 0800 hours. Hong Kong to Hainan Dao Yacht Race

A yacht race from Hong Kong to Hainan Dao will take place on 16 October 2014 (Thursday). About 20 yachts are expected to participate in the race. The race will start at 1320 hours on 16 October 2014 off the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter, and follow an easterly route through the harbour, Tathong Channel and Lo Chau Mun, thence to Hainan Dao. Masters, coxswains and persons-in-charge of vessels navigating in the vicinity of the race route should proceed with caution, giving practical consideration to the contestants. Compliance with the provisions of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972 is mandatory.

All Set for Hong Kong - Macau Yacht Races

Yacht races between Hong Kong and Macau will take place on 26 September (Saturday) and 28 September 2015 (Monday). About 25 sailing boats are expected to participate in the races. The outbound trip from Hong Kong to Macau will start at 1000 hours on 26 September 2015 in an area south-east of Lamma Island (in the vicinity of Yuen Kok Light). (b) Course 2 – a south-westerly route through the southern boundary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, thence to Macau if the wind is coming from the south. (b) Course 2 – a route through south of Xiaozhi Zhou, the southern boundary of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region and to complete the race at a position east of Cheung Chau if the wind is coming from the south.

ABB Wins Orders for Star Cruises Ships

ABB has won orders worth $60 million to deliver complete electrical power plant and propulsion systems for two new vessels for Star Cruises operated by Genting HongKong and to be built by Meyer Werft at its shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The orders were booked during 2014. ABB will supply complete electrical systems for the new vessels, including power generation and distribution systems and thruster motors, as well as its latest-generation Azipod XO propulsion system, commanding power output of 20.5 megawatts (MW). ABB said its energy efficient Azipod propulsion uses less fuel than traditional systems, provides greater maneuverability in all operating conditions, and will contribute to optimized vessel performance and a high level of passenger comfort and safety.
