ESG Delivers Z-Drive Tug to McAllister

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. has announced the delivery of the Escort/Rescue Z-Drive Tug Ava M. McAllister for McAllister Towing, Inc. on May 31, 2019. This Escort/Rescue Z-Drive Tug design is provided by Jensen Maritime Consultants and is issued a USCG Sub-M Certificate of Inspection (COI). The vessel arrived at Eastern in 2018.The Ava M. McAllister (ESG Hull #222) is from the same 100’ Z-drive tug design provided by Jensen Maritime Consultants of Seattle, WA as the Rosemary McAllister (ESG Hull #224) and the upcoming Capt. Jim McAllister(ESG Hull #223), tugs constructed at Eastern.

ESG Launches Another Z Drive tug for McAllister

Eastern Shipbuilding Group has announced the launch of the Escort/Rescue ZDrive Tug CAPT. JIM McALLISTER for McAllister Towing on March 19, 2019.This Escort/Rescue Z-Drive Tug design provided by Jensen Maritime Consultants is currently under construction at Eastern’s Allanton facility. The vessel is scheduled to deliver later in 2019.Present at the launch was the Owners’ onsite representative, Jamie Thibodeaux of McAllister Towing with Eastern’s project manager Patrick D’Isernia. 2018 has been a busy year thus far, says Gulf of Mexico shipyard Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. The Alabama shipbuilder, which announced reorganization plans in September 2017 amid insufficient revenues, says it is presently working on a steady stream of both new construction and repair projects. “Our continued production testifies to Horizon’s unwavering commitment to our customers, vendors and friends,” said Lance C. Lemcool, Horizon’s vice president. The yard’s 2018 new construction projects have included delivery of an 88’ bunker boat and a 25’ truckable towboat.

Horizon Delivers Landing Barge

A new landing barge delivered to Sunset Key Transportation Corporation will provide access to the Sunset Key Resort located on a small island near Key West, Fla. Ordered to replace LCM8 boats purchased from the U.S. Government that are now at the end of their service life, the new barge was built be Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc., with detail design performed in-house by the yard’s engineering department based on a basic design from Shipwright, LLC. The barge is 60’ long with an 18’ molded beam. Horizon said it enlisted Gulf Coast Air and Hydraulics for the ramp hydraulic system.

Marine Jet Power, Horizon Ink Sales & Service Pact

Marine Jet Power, Inc. (MJP) and Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. (Horizon) announced that they have signed an agreement for Horizon to become the newest sales and service provider in the Gulf of Mexico. The Master Sales and Service Agreement names Horizon as an authorized retailer and service provider for MJP’s water jets covering the coastal markets in the United States Gulf region. Horizon Delivers Towboat to FMT

Bayou La Batre, Ala. shipbuilder Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. said it has delivered the M/V Victoria Pasentine, a 120’ towboat with a retractable pilot house, to its home port of New Orleans. The vessel, the 20th built by Horizon for Florida Marine Transporters (FMT) during their nine years of doing business together, was completed and delivered on April 11, 2017. The steel construction Victoria Pasentine is 120’-0” LOA x 35’0” x 11’-6”, weighs in at 387 gross tons, and has an ABS Load Line Certificate to operate in the waters between Chicago to Burns Harbor for fair weather voyages. With the house fully retracted, the max air draft is 17’-8”. It is also outfitted for service in certain areas restricted to overhead clearances and draft limitation.

Horizon Delivers Second NYC Ferry Newbuild

Alabama shipbuilder Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. said it has delivered the second of 13 NYC Ferry vessels being built for NYC Ferry Operated by Hornblower, which will launch this summer. With sea trials and U.S. Coast Guard certification now behind her, H201 will get a final cleanup and the Hornblower crew will begin the nearly 1,900-mile journey from Horizon’s yard to New York City. The first ferry, H200, arrived in New York Harbor on Sunday morning, April 2 after a 13-day journey.

First Citywide Ferry Departs for New York

The first of 13 new passenger ferries being built by Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. for operator Citywide Ferry by Hornblower has departed the Alabama shipyard en route for its new home in New York. The ferry H200 departed to the University of Alabama fight song trumpet fanfare from Horizon on Tuesday, March 21 and will travel approximately 1,700 nautical miles to New York City. The second ferry (H201) is scheduled to depart shortly. Each of the 13 vessels takes about eight months to complete and are scheduled to launch this summer.

Horizon Names Hotz VP, Business Development

Bayou La Batre, Ala. shipbuilder Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. said it has hired John Hotz as Vice President of Business Development. Hotz brings to the role industry experience and a background in business development, having worked within the commercial and government marine sector throughout his entire 27-year career, including positions at several domestic and international boat builders. “John will focus on growing Horizon’s core competencies in the global marketplace and continue to build on the momentum we have been able to secure internationally,” said Travis R.

Horizon Signs Remaining Options for NYC Ferry Builds

Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. said it has been awarded five additional citywide ferries by HNY Ferry Fleet, LLC. The award brings the total ferries Horizon is building to 13 and completes the initial 19 boat citywide ferry contract. Two of the five vessels will be delivered as part of the 2017 package, with the remaining three scheduled for delivery in 2018. Horizon has 10 hulls under production, and the vessels are currently on schedule, with the first boat slated to be delivered in the spring of this year.

Horizon Towboat for Florida Marine

Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. of Bayou La Batre, Alabama has delivered the M/V A.B. York, a 120’ towboat, to its longtime customer Florida Marine Transporters (FMT).This is the nineteenth vessel delivered to FMT by Horizon and the ninth 120’ towboat. Horizon Flips First Hull for McAllister

Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. of Bayou La Batre, Ala. said it has reached milestone in its contract with McAllister Towing. The Capt. Brian A. McAllister, the first of up to four hulls, has been flipped and set on the shipbuilding ways. A considerable amount of work was performed while the hull was upside down including installation of all major pipe runs and manifolds, fabrication and installation of the cable trays and bulkhead penetrations and fender installation, the builder said. With the hull set, Horizon will be able to set the prefabricated and outfitted superstructure.

Horizon Named an Alabama Top Innovator

Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. of Bayou La Batre, Ala. has been recognized for its Outstanding Achievement in Innovative Manufacturing by the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama for the shipbuilder’s GORDHEAD management software, which aims to improve communication between shipbuilders and other manufacturers. With GORDHEAD the owner’s representative remains integrally connected to the project 24 hours/day, seven days/week. The entire shipbuilding team, including the owner, sees a real-time schedule, complete with task percent completes and the overall scheduled finish date of the project.

Horizon Delivers Towboat Marty Cullinan for FMT

In June 2016 Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. of Bayou La Batre, Ala. delivered the M/V Marty Cullinan, a 120’ towboat with a retractable pilot house, to its home port of New Orleans, La. This is the latest delivery of many to Florida Marine Transporters by Horizon and one of the first vessels to fully incorporate Horizon’s GORDHEAD management software. Jeff Brumfield, Sr., Manager of Boat Construction and Engineering for FMT, commented, “We are thoroughly pleased with the boat, and when I talk to the Marty Cullinan crew they are quick to note that she is smooth and very quiet. Horizon to Build NYC's New Ferries

Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc., Bayou La Batre, Ala., has been awarded a series production contract with Hornblower to build new 149-passenger ferries for New York City’s new citywide ferry service set to begin in Summer 2017. The vessels are part of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s plan to connect the outer boroughs with inexpensive waterborne mass transit. The first ferries delivered will serve the South Brooklyn, Astoria and Rockaway routes next summer, with additional routes serving the Lower East Side and Soundview in the Bronx in Summer 2018.

Inland Vessel Profile: USACE’s Dan Reeves

The newly built M/V Dan Reeves was commissioned in January of 2016 for the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Little Rock District. Built by Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc., Bayou La Batre, Ala., overseen by the USACE Marine Design, the 95-foot-long vessel is designed to comply with proposed USCG Subchapter M Requirements. Power and propulsion is provided by tow Cat C32 WOSR “C” Rated main engines, giving 1,300 HP Each at 1,800-2,100rpm, along with two Thrustmaster TM1500MZ Z-Drives with 5.74:1 Reduction Gear Ratio. Fuel Capacity: 22,800 Gal. Potable Water: 7,500 Gal.

Jensen to Design McAllister’s New Escort Tugs

Jensen Maritime, Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company, was selected to provide detailed design services including stability, structure and systems design for two, 100-foot long, 40-foot wide, escort tugs for McAllister Towing. The 12-knot, 6,770-horsepower tugs will be constructed at Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc., in Bayou LaBatre, Ala., and are scheduled for delivery in 2017. The Brian A. McAllister and the Rosemary McAllister will be the 31st and 32nd oceangoing escort/rescue tugboats in the fleet respectively…

McAllister Towing to Build Tractor Tugs at Horizon

McAllister Towing continues its long, 150-plus year hisory of serving the maritime industry announcing investment in two new boats sporting the latest technology. McAllister Towingis announced that Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. of Bayou La Batre, AL, will build 100 x 40-ft. Escort/Rescue tugs for the company, vessels powered by 3516E Tier IV Caterpillar engines with Schottel SRP4000FP units producing 6,770 hp and 80 metric tons bollard pull. The tugs will be classified with ABS as Maltese Cross A-1 Towing, Escort Service, FiFi 1 and Maltese Cross AMS.

Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. of Bayou La Batre, Ala., has been presented with the 2015 “Innovator of the Year” award by the Mobile Alabama Chamber of Commerce for Horizon was recognized for its GORDHEAD collaboration software aiming to revolutionize the way shipbuilders and other manufacturers conduct business. Horizon described GORDHEAD as its new “brain” for management and supervision to improve communication by more easily sharing problems and quickly arrive at collaborative solutions.

Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. announced it has delivered another 80-foot inland river towboat, the M/V Michael Akiu #86, to Florida Marine Transporters. Inc. (FMT) of Mandeville, La. The 2,100 horsepower M/V Michael Akiu #86 is the final vessel for FMT as part of a order for three 80’ X 33’ X 10’-6” twin propeller towboats awarded to the a Bayou La Batre, Ala. shipyard in 2013. The Project Manager for the construction of the M/V Michael Akiu #86, Mike Sims, has delivered the three 80-foot vessels on-time.

Horizon Delivers Second 80’ Towboat to FMT

Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. announced the delivery of another 80’ Inland River Towboat, the M/V Chip Stiebing, to Florida Marine Transporters (FMT) of Mandeville, La. Delivered in March 2015, this is the second 80’ towboat of the three vessel contract with FMT. Horizon, a Bayou La Batre, Alabama shipyard has delivered several 140’ and 120’ inland river towboats over the eight-year relationship with FMT. The project manager for the construction of the M/V Chip Stiebing, Mike Sims, has now delivered two of the three 80’ vessels on-time.

Horizon Delivers 2 Towboats to FMT
