Italian Terminal Orders Kalmar Straddle Carriers

Medcenter Container Terminal SpA (MCT), which operates a major transshipment hub for the Mediterranean region, has placed an order for 32 diesel-electric straddle carriers. The delivery of all machines scheduled to be completed by the end of Q4 2019. MCT is located in the southern Italian port of Gioia Tauro, a mega-port able to handle the largest vessels deployed on the Asia-Mediterranean routes.The terminal has handled more than 50 million TEU since it began operations in September 1995, with an annual handling capacity of 4.2 million TEU. In total, Kalmar has delivered 164 straddle carriers to MCT since the terminal was opened. Asia to Witness Container Terminal Automation Boom

Kalmar Automation Solutions said that the share of automated terminals will grow rapidly  in Asia, given the terminal operators’ interest and activity level towards automation.Container terminal automation in Asia is in an early stage, except for Australia. First automated mega-terminals are in operation and future growth depends on many external issues. In general, Rubber-Tyred Gantry crane (RTG) is the main handling system for containers globally, and that applies in Asia as well.RTG is used in 60% of the main container handling systems for 420 main terminals in Asia. However, when counting the number of container moves completed in different terminals, RMGs/ASCs dominate. This is because the big container terminals use RMGs/ASCs but in general, they are a minority.

Kalmar, DP World Southampton Pact for Hybrid Straddle Carriers

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a contract with DP World Southampton to supply 12 hybrid straddle carriers for use at their container terminal, said a press release.The Southampton agreement also includes maintenance and operator training as well as six months of on-site maintenance support. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2018 third quarter order intake, and delivery is scheduled for Q2 of 2019. DP World Southampton is the UK port of choice for many global leaders in the container shipping industry. Thanks to its strategic location on the UK's south coast it is an ideal first or last port of call for container ships serving the Northern Europe-Far East trade routes.

Kalmar and HHLA in Straddle Carrier Pact

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has concluded a deal with Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), the leading European port and transport logistics group, to supply a total of 10 new straddle carriers.This brings the total number of Kalmar straddle carriers ordered by HHLA in the last two years to 30, further demonstrating the strong relationship with Kalmar and the company's commitment to Kalmar equipment. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2018 third quarter order intake, with delivery scheduled to take place in Q1 2019. Established in 1968, HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) is the largest facility for container handling in the Port of Hamburg.

Kalmar-Navis Intermodal Automation Solution for Moorebank Logistics Park

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, and Navis, part of Kalmar Business Area within Cargotec, have been awarded the contract to supply a state-of-the-art, fully automated intermodal terminal solution for Qube's Moorebank Logistics Park (MLP) in south-western Sydney. The order, valued at approximately EUR 80 million, includes the supply of the OneTerminal solution comprising Kalmar's automated train handling, automated yard crane and automated horizontal transportation equipment and the Navis N4 terminal operating system (TOS). It was booked into Cargotec's 2018 second quarter order intake. The manual operations at the Moorebank facility are due to commence in Q1 of 2019.

30 Kalmar Hybrid Shuttle Carriers for APM Terminals Tangier

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a contract with APM Terminals to deliver 30 Kalmar Hybrid Shuttle Carriers with high level of automation readiness as well as the related service and support to the customer's MedPort Terminal in Tangier, Marocco. The order was booked into Cargotec's 2016 fourth quarter order intake and the delivery is estimated to be completed by the end of 2018. This is Kalmar's biggest single order for horizontal transportation to date. The Tangier-Med 2 port is a greenfield transshipment terminal that is scheduled to be opened in 2019. It will serve the major shipping routes between Europe, Africa and Far East and respond to the anticipated significant cargo traffic increase in Africa in the coming years.

23 Kalmar Straddle Carriers for Transnet, South Africa

Kalmar has won a large order to supply 23 diesel-electric straddle carriers to Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) Durban Pier 2, a dedicated straddle carrier operation in South Africa currently handling a throughput of 2.6 million TEU. The contract also includes a delivery of a straddle carrier simulator, which will be used for training purposes at the site. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2016 third quarter order intake with deliveries scheduled to be completed in 2017. Kalmar Launches FastCharge Hybrid Straddle Carrier

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, announced today that it will expand the FastCharge technology into its hybrid straddle and shuttle carrier product portfolio. The new Kalmar FastCharge Hybrid Straddle Carrier will be the first of its kind on the market, and it is especially targeted for existing straddle carrier terminals not able to utilise fully electric powered solution for various reasons. Kokko Appointed Sr.V.P.-Automation & Projects, Kalmar

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has appointed Tero Kokko Senior Vice President, Automation and Projects as of 1 July 2016. He will report to Antti Kaunonen, current Senior Vice President, Automation and Projects who will start as President of Kalmar as of 1 July 2016. Tero Kokko (Doctor of Technology) has worked for Kalmar since 2011, most recently as Vice President, Intelligent Horizontal Transportation Solutions business line. Before joining Kalmar, Tero worked for Metso Automation in various positions and for Tampere University of Technology where he did his PhD on automation and control engineering. "Tero has deep insight on automation, our industry and our company, and is able to combine deep technical expertise with good business understanding and customer focus.

Kalmar Straddle Carriers for EUROGATE CT, Hamburg

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, is to deliver nine diesel-electric straddle carriers to EUROGATE, Europe's leading shipping line-independent container terminal operator, for use in their Hamburg Container Terminal. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2016 first quarter order intake, with delivery taking place during quarter four in 2016. Virginia Port Deploys Hybrid Shuttle Carriers

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has delivered the three hybrid shuttle carriers ordered by The Port of Virginia in late 2014, to Virginia International Gateway terminal (VIG) in Portsmouth, Virginia, USA. The environmentally advanced units have been in action in VIG since last week. Kalmar Launches Next Generation ASC System

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has introduced its next generation automatic stacking crane (ASC) system at the TOC Europe exhibition in Rotterdam. Featuring future-proof technology, it is the most efficient and productive ASC system ever. By enabling smooth and fast automation deployment, it allows terminals to deliver high throughput as well as a predictable and reliable performance. At the heart of the new ASC system is the Kalmar 5th generation automatic stacking crane. Kalmar Bags Virginia Port Order for Shuttle Carriers

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has gained an order for three Kalmar hybrid shuttle carriers from the Port of Virginia, a multi-terminal container and breakbulk cargo complex located in Virginia, 18 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The 1-over-1 hybrid shuttle carriers will be dedicated to operations at Virginia International Gateway (VIG), one of the port's four terminals. The order was booked into Cargotec's 2014 fourth quarter order intake with delivery scheduled for third quarter 2015. VIG is a semi-automated operation with automatic stacking cranes (ASCs) in the yard operations and manual shuttle carriers used for the transport of containers from the ship-to-shore area to the ASCs.

Cargotec Bridges Automation Gap for Containers

Cargotec has expanded its portfolio with an automated lashing platform for fully automated quayside twistlock handling. Under the terms of an exclusive global licensing agreement, Cargotec has assumed full responsibility for KALP GmbH's automated lashing platform products and services. The platforms will be rebranded under Cargotec's daughter brand Kalmar. Today, stevedores manually remove twistlocks during the discharge process and fix them during the load process. Cargotec can now bridge the automation gap between ship to shore cranes and horizontal transportation. The innovative automated lashing platform is the only fully automated coning and de-coning device on the market for use in ports. Cargotec to Partner with DP World

Cargotec to partner with DP World in port automation project for London Gateway. Cargotec has been chosen as the preferred partner to supply 40 Kalmar automatic stacking cranes with related technology and 28 Kalmar shuttle carriers to DP World's deepsea container port London Gateway. Cargotec and DP World have signed a cooperation agreement and aim to finalise the contract shortly. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the intended contract however, a typical value of this size of a project is around EUR 100-150 million depending on the scope of the delivery.

Kalmar Introduces Electrical Shuttle Carrier

Cargotec continues to develop its range of Kalmar straddle carriers with an environmental focus. The latest addition to the product range is the Electrical Shuttle Carrier, ESH W, which provides higher productivity with lower emissions. Ilkka Annala, Vice President of Kalmar Straddle Carriers, Cargotec said, “With our original Kalmar Shuttle Carrier we revolutionised quayside productivity in mega-terminals by eliminating waiting times with decoupling of vessel and yard operations. In addition to increasing terminal productivity, our customers are now building more sustainable operations. This need triggered the launch of our new Electrical Shuttle Carrier, the ESH W, for manual or fully automated operations.

20 Kalmar Shuttle Carriers to Algeciras

Cargotec's Kalmar business area has been awarded a contract to provide a fleet of shuttle carriers to TTI Algeciras S.A. in Spain. These 20 Kalmar SHC240H shuttle carriers have a single-lifting capacity of 40 tonnes and can stack containers two high. The equipment will be delivered by January 2010. The key productivity benefit of the shuttle carrier is its ability to leave and pick up containers from the ground eliminating waiting times. Ship-to-shore cranes place containers from the vessel on the ground, under the crane's back reach, from where the containers are then collected by the shuttle carriers and transported to the automatic stacking crane buffer area.
