ABS Rules Guide New Greener OSV

Ex-TechnipFMC Director to Lead U.S. Dredging Giant's Foray into Offshore Wind

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, a U.S.-based dredging services giant, on Wednesday announced the appointment of industry veteran Eleni Beyko as senior vice president offshore wind – a strategic growth area for the company. Beyko, who started on Jan. 25, brings more than 20 years' experience in program engineering, business leadership and project management in the automobile and offshore oil and gas markets. At GLDD, she is responsible for developing its offshore wind operations, including strategy and business development, tendering and project execution.

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. announced Thursday it is moving its corporate headquarters to Houston, positioning the nation’s largest dredging services provider nearer to major regional projects and opportunities. Hercules Offshore Selects RigNet Communications Solutions

RigNet, Inc., a provider of managed remote communications solutions for the upstream oil and gas industry, recently announced the expansion of its contract with Hercules Offshore to provide managed remote communications to its fleet of jackup drilling rigs and U.S. Gulf of Mexico-based inland barges. Under the previous contract, RigNet provided managed communication services to most Hercules Offshore rigs operating outside of the United States. This recent agreement expands the contract to include the company's jackup rigs and inland barges in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, including the recently-acquired rigs from Seahawk Drilling. With managed communications solutions provided by RigNet, Hercules Offshore's remote personnel can now access critical enterprise data, voice and broadband Internet.

Beemar Supply Vessel Fleet Uses Hughes Broadband

When Beemar, LLC rolled out a fleet of Dynamic Positioning 2 (DP-2) Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs), they needed a global broadband maritime communications solution that could match the high-tech demands of these new vessels and of their customers. BEEMAR chose Hughes Network Systems, LLC and Environmental Safety Systems International, Inc (ESSI) to fulfill this mission. Hughes is equipping BEEMAR's entire fleet of platform supply vessels with its fully managed maritime solution in partnership with ESSI Corporation, a systems integrator specializing in maritime industries. The Hughes solution includes high-speed Internet access, voice, email, video, and on-board Wi-Fi.

ABS Steps Up Castor Response

ABS, the classification society of record for the damaged product tanker Castor, has stepped up its assistance efforts in response to the continuing failure of any nation to offer the vessel a port of refuge. "It has been 10 days since this ship arrived at a port seeking refuge," ABS President Robert D. Somerville noted. "If that refuge had been granted the vessel would be heading to a repair yard by now. ABS suspended classification of the Castor on January 4, pending resolution of the casualty damage. "This is standard procedure when there has been significant damage," ABS Chief Surveyor Gus Bourneuf explained. "We are continuing to work closely with the owner in its attempts to safeguard the vessel." The vessel underwent its last annual survey in August 2000.

ACL Opens Houston Headquarters

American Commercial Lines Inc. (ACL) opened its new Liquid Transportation Division Headquarters in Houston, Texas. The opening of the new regional headquarters, combined with ACL's recent announcement to build 30 new 30,000 barrel tank barges in 2008, begins the foundation for the Company's long-term strategy to increase liquid business from 24% to 40% of its total transportation revenue.
