Alan Buckelew, currently the president and CEO of Princess Cruises, is being appointed to the newly created role of Chief Operations Officer of Carnival Corporation & plc effective December 1, 2013, reporting to President and CEO Arnold Donald. Buckelew will have oversight of all maritime and port operations around the world and our group collaborative functions, including information technology; group strategy and global operations; ship retrofits; newbuilds; research and development; risk advisory; and quality assurance.

Charles Arkinstall, a 21-year veteran of P&O Princess Cruises, has been named senior vice president of maritime affairs for Carnival Corporation & plc. In this capacity, Arkinstall will head up the newly created corporate maritime affairs department, responsible for establishing and promoting fleetwide safety, health and security policies for Carnival Corporation & plc's 13 global cruise brands. He will also work closely with the company's environmental compliance division in developing corporate-wide environmental policies. Arkinstall will also serve as Carnival Corporation & plc's representative for various cruise industry organizations and act as a liaison with the company's brands regarding new regulations and developments related to safety, health and security.

Carnival Corporation & plc announced that it estimates the financial impact of Hurricane Jeanne on its fourth quarter earnings will be approximately $0.02 per share. This is in addition to a previously announced impact of $0.03 to $0.04 per share as a result of Hurricanes Frances and other hurricanes earlier this month. Like Hurricane Frances, Hurricane Jeanne closed several south and central Florida ports, forcing Carnival to shorten the itineraries for six of its brands’ cruises – four for Carnival Cruise Lines and one each for Holland America Line and Princess Cruises. Guests on abbreviated cruises had the option of sailing and receiving partial refunds and shipboard credits, or canceling and receiving full refunds or future cruise credits.
