UK Marine Industry Continues Growth

The U.K. leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine industry continue to grow, according to new statistics published today by British Marine at the London Boat Show 2016. Growth in domestic consumer markets has helped off-set a tricky year for exporters who are still feeling the effects of a sluggish Eurozone and the wider global economic conditions felt by most U.K. business sectors. Inland hire, charter and passenger boat services have performed particularly well, capitalising on the increasing popularity of the U.K. with international visitors and the growth in U.K.

UK Chamber signs MOU with Society of Maritime Industries, British Marine

The UK Chamber of Shipping has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Society of Maritime Industries and British Marine, to set out the basis for the three organisations to work together for the benefit of the industry as a whole. Guy Platten, Chief Executive Officer of the UK Chamber of Shipping, added: “The UK Chamber and its partners have been pooling resources and working evermore closely for a number of years, and the MOU is a further step towards this goal. Howard Pridding, Chief Executive of British Marine, commented: “The three organisations that have entered in to the MOU are aware of the changes we anticipate seeing in the way the Government interacts with the marine and maritime industries.

New British Marine Brand Launched

British Marine has today unveiled its strong new identity that stands out within the context of modern brands in the marine sector, providing a solid focal point for the members the organisation serves. British Marine now represents a durable brand for its members to be part of, which will serve them in promoting their businesses and British excellence in the UK and overseas markets. The use of the British Marine logo is an important benefit of membership and the organisation will continue to invest heavily in its ‘Look for the Logo’ campaign to encourage consumers to buy from British Marine members. The new look is the result of a year-long re-brand exercise which has been undertaken in-house with the Executive Team working with the Membership and Marketing Committee.

British Security Initiative Targets Marine Theft

The British Marine Federation has partnered with security experts Datatag to help owners avoid theft of marine outboards. At the CWM FX London Boat Show today, the two organizations announced a new security initiative called COMPASS; the Combined Official Marine Property and Security System as a technological answer to the issue of theft addressing one of the key weak areas the marine market has which criminals are exploiting – identity. Report: UK Marine Industry has £6.2b Impact

The full economic impact of the U.K. marine industry and spend associated with boating participation was estimated to total £6.2 billion in 2012/13, according to a new report released by the British Marine Federation (BMF). Latest industry trends results also announced by the BMF show encouraging signs of an upward trend for this key contributor to the U.K. economy. The two reports are announced in a week when the U.K. leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine industry came together at the BMF’s annual conference in Liverpool.
