Dutch/Bangladesh JV Delivers Dredges

In late 2008 a joint venture was formed between the Netherlands based Vosta  LMG and the Bangladesh Karnafuly Shipyard to build three CSD450 cutter suction dredgers for the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority. At the same time construction was underway to an agreement that had been signed with the Bangladesh Water Development Board for two CSD650 cutter suction dredges under the same joint venture. The model numbers 450 and 650 designate the diameter in centimeters of the dredge’s internal discharge pipe. Both of these larger dredges were delivered in mid-year 2012.

HPI Project Award for USNS Roy M Wheat

HPI, LLC, a supplier of turbine control solutions and turnkey power plants, announced a project award to install a Propulsion Control System (PCS) aboard the USNS Roy Wheat. HPI was contracted by Keystone Shipping a ship management company for the US Navy. The USNS Roy Wheat is one of the Military Sealift Command's thirteen Container & Roll-on/Roll-off Ships and is part of the 32 ships in Military Sealift Command's Prepositioning Program. HPI is working closely with the Military Sealift Command towards developing a replacement propulsion machinery control and monitoring system based on the latest generation of ABS Approved Commercial Off the Shelf PLC’s and other automation components.

Cummins QSK60 HPI Aux Engine Tier II Cert.

Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) has received a statement of compliance from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) certifying the QSK60 HPI auxiliary engine to IMO Tier II emissions standards. The 60-liter, V-16 cylinder engine joins a full line-up of IMO Tier II compliant propulsion and auxiliary engines from 78 – 1925 kW (104 – 2547 HP) available from Cummins. The QSK60 features the proven Cummins High Pressure Injection (HPI) electronic fuel system and the same lubrication, cooling, air handling and exhaust systems as the IMO Tier I product. Further, the engine shares similar hardware with its predecessor including engine mounts, vessel connections and optional equipment, simplifying vessel installation and repowers.

HPI Digital Control System for U.S. Navy

HPI, supplier of turbine control solutions and turnkey power plants, announced the successful commissioning of a digital propulsion, power and steering control system aboard the ex-USS Foster Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS). HPI designed the system to replace the existing analog controls, creating a fully integrated remote control system allowing the SDTS to operate un-manned at sea. Called the Digital Remote Interface Vector Equipment (DRIVE), the system has been built using multiple Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and includes computer workstations connected via a redundant fiber optic network. The high reliability control system will provide shore-based personnel with the ability to control the ships speed, course and machinery during weapons trials.
