Cromarty Firth Port Wins Monopile Marshalling Deal for Moray West Offshore Wind Farm

Developers of the Moray West offshore wind farm in the UK have selected Invergordon port in the Cromarty Firth, Scotland, as the location for marshalling all 62 monopiles prior to installation as part of the Moray West offshore wind farm. DP World to Invest $500 in Jeddah Port Upgrade

The global port operator DP World has been awarded a 30-year Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) concession by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), for the management and development of the Jeddah South Container Terminal at the multi-purpose Jeddah Islamic Port.According to a press release from the UAE-based world leader in global supply chain solutions, under the agreement, DP World will invest up to $500 million to improve and modernize the Jeddah Islamic Port, including major infrastructure development to enable the Port to serve the ultra-large container carriers (ULCC’s), which are considered the world’s largest mega containerships.Established in 1976, the Jeddah Islamic Port is on the red sea and the largest port in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with annual volumes of over 6 million TEU’s.

Prince Frederik to Address WindEurope Event

Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark will deliver the opening address at the WindEurope Offshore 2019, which is claimed to be the world’s largest event dedicated to offshore wind.The event, which will take place in Copenhagen from 26 to 28 November, will gather 9,000 participants and more than 400 exhibitors as the industry gears up to help deliver Europe’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.After Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark the Prime Minister of Denmark on 26, November, Mette Frederiksen, will address the event. Then Energy Minsters from around Europe and offshore wind industry leaders will complete the opening session.Denmark has been at the forefront of wind energy development with the world’s first ever offshore wind farm – Vindeby – in 1991.

HRH The Princess Royal becomes Patron of BOAM Campaign

The charity behind the campaign to build the UK’s national memorial to the Battle of the Atlantic in Liverpool has announced that HRH The Princess Royal, has become its Patron.In a letter to the campaign Her Royal Highness said:“The Battle of the Atlantic, a six-year long campaign, was enormous in its scale, both geographically and logistically. In total over 100,000 people lost their lives in this epic struggle between the convoys and the U Boat packs. It required the combined efforts of huge numbers of men and women of many nationalities across their navies, air forces and merchant navies.

Ferrybridge Demolished for Beatrice OWF

S. Arabia Accedes to 2 More IMO Treaties

Saudi Arabia has acceded to two important International Maritime Organization (IMO)  treaties – the 1988 Protocol to the International Convention on Load Lines and the Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks.The 1988 Load Lines protocol harmonizes the Load Lines Convention's survey and certification requirement with those contained in the SOLAS and MARPOL conventions and revises certain regulations in the technical Annexes to the convention.The Nairobi Convention provides the legal basis for States to remove, or have removed, shipwrecks that may have the potential to affect adversely the safety of lives, goods and property at sea…

BMT CEO Sarah Kenny is Maritime UK Vice Chair

Maritime UK has confirmed the appointment of Sarah Kenny as Vice Chair. Kenny is CEO at BMT Global.Maritime UK is the sector’s umbrella body, bringing together the shipping, ports, services, engineering and leisure marine industries to drive growth by promoting the sector, influencing government and fostering collaboration. The sector supports just under 1 million jobs and contributes around GBP40bn to GDP.Kenny will start her two-year terms on 1 December. Jeddah Mulls Safe and Secure Regional Waters

Signatory States to an agreement aimed at repressing piracy, armed robbery and illicit maritime activity in the western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden Area have agreed that building response capability and information sharing are vital steps towards achieving a more safe and secure maritime environment. The signatories to the revised Code of Conduct concerning the repression of piracy, armed robbery against ships and illicit maritime activity in the western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden Area, known as the Jeddah Amendment to the Djibouti Code of Conduct 2017, were meeting In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for a high level workshop (7-10 May) for all signatory States and States eligible to sign the Jeddah Amendment, donors and implementing partners.

Damen's Boer Secures WISTA Post

Damen’s Head of Communications, Sylvia Boer, has recently been appointed President of the Netherlands chapter of WISTA – the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association. WISTA the Netherlands was founded in 2000 and currently has 140 members from across the maritime industry. WISTA the Netherlands focuses on a number of priority topics affecting the industry. MSC Signs Buckingham Palace Declaration Against Wildlife Trafficking

Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. SES Supports Medical Ship Project in Peru

In support of the Vine Trusts’ latest project in the Peruvian Amazon, Ships Electronic Services (SES) will provide and install a comprehensive navigation and communications system aboard the Trusts’ new medical ship MV Forth Hope. Built by David Abels in Bristol the 35 meter vessel has been fitted out to the Trusts’ specification by Babcock International Group in Rosyth and will now be completed with a sophisticated electronics navigation and communication system developed by SES for her departure in the first half of July.

Merchant Navy Medal Award Nominations Open

The Merchant Navy Medal (MNM) has been awarded by the industry for meritorious service since it was established in 2005. Last year it was elevated to a State award, with presentations conducted by HRH The Princess Royal at Trinity House on 15 November. This year, the closing date for the receipt of nominations is Friday 19 May. Details of the awards ceremony will be promulgated in due course. Eligibility for the MNM is limited to those who have served, or are serving, in the Merchant Navy or Fishing Fleets of the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands who have shown devotion to duty and exemplary service, which has been of particular value and has constituted an outstanding example to others.

Prince Charles Places Final Section of UK Aircraft Carrier

The second of the largest warships ever built for the U.K. Royal Navy, the Queen Elizabeth Class carrier HMS Prince of Wales, was given the royal seal of approval when HRH The Prince of Wales, (or Duke of Rothesay, as he is referred to in Scotland), visited Babcock’s Rosyth Facilities and signaled for the final section to be lowered into place, shipbuilder BAE Systems announced. The 570-metric-ton block – known as Sponson 11 – was the final section of the 280-meter-long warship to be manufactured.

Danish Princess Names Stenaweco Impulse

Newly built chemical and product tanker Stenaweco Impulse was named by H.R.H. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, whobroke a bottle of champagne against the tanker’s bow and wished the vessel, her captain and his crew fortune and prosperity. Named on Monday at a cerempny at Langelinie Pier in the center of Copenhagen, Stenaweco Impulse is the newest vessel owned by Stena Weco, a joint venture between Swedish Stena Bulk and Danish Weco Shipping for the transport of vegetable oils, chemicals and petroleum products.

Marine safety equipment manufacturer and servicing provider VIKING Life-Saving Equipment A/S is to establish a local presence in Korea through a joint venture agreement with leading Korean marine safety equipment and servicing company Daemyung Marine Co. Ltd. The new joint venture, VIKING Life-Saving Equipment Korea LLC, has VIKING as the majority shareholder. The venture aims to bring faster access for Korean-based and foreign-flag ship managers in the cargo, passenger and offshore segments to the full range of VIKING products and service concepts. Mission ‘Row Around Singapore Island’ 2015

With only 7 days to go to the big Singapore charity row, Row Around Singapore Island (RASI) the intrepid volunteer rowers from the maritime community of Singapore have been undertaking their final practice weekend at the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club. DP World to Tackle Illegal Wildlife Trade

Global marine terminal operator DP World has agreed to a set of 11 principles designed to help tackle the US$ 19 billion illegal wildlife trade. In a groundbreaking meeting in London last week, members of the United for Wildlife International Taskforce on the Transportation of Illegal Wildlife Products finalised the document that will shape the efforts of its transport and logistics sector members in the future. The Declaration and Commitments cover a raft of issues from information sharing and detection, practical measures to stop the transportation of illegal wildlife products and a common determination to tackle the illegal trade, wherever it may be.
