Taiwan Submarine Project Chief Quits, Ministry Says Plans to Proceed

Taiwan's homegrown submarine programme will remain on track, the defence minister said on Wednesday, after the head of the programme resigned due to what he said were unfair attacks against him and the military.Taiwan, which China views as its own territory, has made the submarine programme a key part of an ambitious project to modernise its armed forces as Beijing stages almost daily military exercises to assert sovereignty claims Taipei rejects.Taiwan unveiled the first of eight new submarines in late September, though it won't enter service until next year.

ABS Grants AIP for F&G-Designed COSCO Wind Turbine Installation Vessel

American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has granted Approval in Principle (AIP) for a design for a wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) for China Ocean Shipping Company Limited (COSCO) by Friede and Goldman (F&G).According to ABS, the design is suitable for all offshore wind markets and is capable of installing 15 MW and larger-sized turbines. It can be equipped with F&G’s BargeRack feeder barge system to support Jones Act-compliant operations in the U.S. that has previously received an AIP from ABS.

China, India Soak Up Oil from Floating Storage as Demand Picks Up

The volume of crude stored on ships in Asia has come off the peaks seen earlier this month on a recovery in demand in China and India, trade sources and analysts said. Chipolbrok Moon Loads Cable Tanks

Not so much the weight, but rather the precise handling of the cable tanks required the utmost attention while loading the MV "Chipolbrok Moon"  in the Port of Hamburg.Four cable tanks with a unit weight of 110 tons and dimensions of 6.06 x 7.31 m had been delivered environmentally friendly by inland waterway vessel. Their dimensions fitted into one of the eight subspaces on the port side of the ship.With a load capacity of max. 320 tons per deck crane, it was no great challenge to lift these parcels. Fire Stricken Tanker Towed to New York

A 479-foot asphalt tanker was towed into New York Harbor after an engine room fire left the vessel disabled off the U.S. East Coast.Early on October 5, U.S. Coast Guard watchstanders in Woods Hole, Mass. received a report that the Hong Kong-flagged tanker Feng Huang AO loaded with asphalt and bound for New York Harbor suffered a fire in its engine room while transiting 57 miles southeast of Nantucket Island.The flames were extinguished using the ship’s installed carbon dioxide fire suppression system.

The LNG carrier Stena Blue Sky was historical when it delivered its cargo to the first privately-owned LNG terminal in China.Chinese gas distributor, ENN invited the LNG carrier to become the first vessel to unload at the new Xin’ao Terminal in Zhoushan, Ninbo region on 8th August 2018.Chinese companies build their own LNG terminals and import the fuel directly because they aim to meet higher demand and reduce their dependence on supplies of LNG from state-owned companies.
