Seismic Isolation System for Pair of Quayside Container Cranes

A seismic isolation system provided by Casper, Phillips & Associates Inc. (CPA) has been installed on two quayside container cranes.The crane base anti-seismic isolation system (BASIS) is built on non-linear time history analysis (NLTHA) and is designed to protect the crane main structure from damage even in contingency level earthquakes. BASIS has been successfully installed and commissioned on two cranes that are in a major seismic zone in Turkey. The cranes, installed at Asyaport, have a 100 ft. (30.48m) gantry span, 223 ft. (68m) outreach, 66 ft. (20m) back-reach, and 152 ft.

Hubbell Awarded Water Heater Contract

Navy LHA-7 Tripoli

Hubbell Electric Heater Company, a manufacturer of Naval qualified water heaters, has announced  that the company has been awarded a contract from HII-Ingalls Shipbuilding for the U.S. Navy USS Tripoli (LHA-7) large-deck amphibious assault ship. The Hubbell contract consists of several types of Naval qualified water heaters including Hubbell’s state-of-the-art semi-instantaneous heaters. The specially designed water heaters provide potable hot water for the crew and are capable of withstanding the shock and vibration environment of a combat vessel.

Marine Casualty

When a vessel-related accident occurs on the navigable waters of the United States, the investigation machinery starts up almost immediately. The operator, owner, or person in charge of a vessel involved in such a casualty is obliged to give the soonest practicable notification, often followed by a written report, to the local Coast Guard Sector or office. This begins a process in which livelihoods, liberty, and civil liability might all be at stake. Careful thought is required when the Coast Guard investigating officer calls to request an interview.

Marine Products Corp Reports Successful Q2 2012 Financial Results

U.S. based Marine Products Corporation release its unaudited results for the quarter ended June 30, 2012. Marine Products is a leading manufacturer of fiberglass boats under two brand names: sterndrive and inboard pleasure boats by Chaparral, including H2O Sport and Fish & Ski Boats, SSi and SSX Sportboats, Sunesta Sportdecks, Xtreme Towboats, Signature Cruisers and Premiere Sport Yachts, and outboard sport fishing boats by Robalo. For the quarter ended June 30, 2012, Marine Products generated net sales of $38,454,000, a 32.2 percent increase compared to $29,098,000 last year. The increase in net sales was due to a 58.6 percent increase in the number of boats sold, partially offset by an 18.1 percent decrease in the average selling price per boat.

Limitation of Liability in the Workboat Industry

The owners of tugs and other workboats are entitled to limit their liability under the Shipowner’s Limitation of Liability Act, 46 U.S.C. §30501 et seq. (“Limitation Act”), to the same extent as the owners of ocean-going ships. Thus, if a workboat is involved in a maritime casualty, the workboat’s owner or bareboat charterer may be entitled to limit its liability to the value of the workboat after the incident, plus any towing charges, hire, or freight still owed for the job. Marine Products is a leading manufacturer of fiberglass boats under two brand names: sterndrive and inboard pleasure boats by Chaparral, including Premiere Sport Yachts, SSi and SSX Sportboats and Cuddy Cabins, Sunesta Sportdecks, Xtreme Towboats, Signature Cruisers, and outboard sport fishing boats by Robalo. For the quarter ended March 31, 2011, Marine Products generated net sales of $27,148,000 a 10.8 percent increase compared to $24,493,000 last year.

Marine Products Corporation (NYSE:MPX) announced its unaudited results for the quarter ended March 31, 2009. Marine Products is a manufacturer of fiberglass boats under two brand names: sterndrive and inboard pleasure boats by Chaparral, including Premiere Sport Yachts, SSi Wide Techs, SSX Bowriders, Sunesta Wide Techs and Xtremes, Signature Cruisers, and outboard sport fishing boats by Robalo. For the quarter ended March 31, 2009, Marine Products generated net sales of $13,806,000, a 78.9 percent decrease compared to $65,542,000 last year. The decrease in net sales was due to a decrease of 77.9 percent in the number of boats sold and additional costs recorded during the quarter of our winter retail incentive program.

Marine Products Corporation (NYSE:MPX) announced its unaudited results for the quarter ended December 31, 2008. Marine Products is a manufacturer of fiberglass boats under two brand names: sterndrive and inboard pleasure boats by Chaparral, including Premiere Sport Yachts, SSi Wide Techs, SSX Bowriders, Sunesta Wide Techs and Xtremes, Signature Cruisers, and outboard sport fishing boats by Robalo. For the quarter ended December 31, 2008, Marine Products generated net sales of $22.7m a 61.4 percent decrease compared to $58.9m last year. The decrease in net sales was due to a 63.3 percent decrease in the number of boats sold, partially offset by a 6.7 percent increase in the average selling price per boat.

Exxon Valdez Put to Rest
