Sanctioned Vessel Finally Departs American Samoa

Following a five-month stay in the port of Pago Pago, American Samoa, the 580-foot motor vessel Wise Honest, a 17,061-ton, single-hull bulk carrier ship connected to U.S. sanctions violations departed under tow Monday.This action comes after an investigation by the Department of Justice and the sale of the ship in a Southern District of New York Federal Court-directed auction. MOL Bulker is the First Built with Safer Hull

Bulk carrier of the type featuring the NSafe-Hull

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) announced the world’s first use of highly ductile steel plate NSafe-Hull, developed by Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation on a merchant vessel. The ship featuring this new safety-enhancing feature, a large-size bulk carrier, was launched on August 2. The NSafe-Hull’s highly ductile steel reportedly absorbs side impact to the hull three times more effectively than conventional steel plate, reducing the risk of cracks in the hull and significantly increasing the safety of the vessel, MOL said.

First Contracts for Innovative Bulk Carrier Design

Deltamarin said that it entered into a contract with CSSC/Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard Co. Ltd. (China) for the design of B.Delta25 bulk carriers, the first contract for the 28,000 dwt bulk carrier. Deltamarin will procure the Basic Design, part of the Detail Design and the Technical Procurement handling, and will also have a site team to ensure the continuity all along the design phases to production. Length, o.a. The design is a single hull bulk carrier with shallow draft and good maneuvering capabilities intended for operation in restricted water depths, and very low fuel consumption, which has been the focus of Deltamarin in the design.

Graig expands into Germany

Cardiff and Shanghai-based Graig Group is expanding into Germany. Graig has established a ship management company in Hamburg, and has sold and chartered back seven ships in a $24m KG deal backed by Hamburg-based KG broker Ownership Emissionhaus Gmbh. Graig Shipmanagement (Germany) Gmbh will manage seven modern Confidence-class multi-purpose vessels, part of the nineteen-ship series which Graig built in China between 1997 and 2003. Vessel Trends:New Era of the Double-Hull Bulker

As an endorsement of a commercially circumspect approach to double-hull bulk carrier design and construction, UK-based Graig Group has generated a tranche of orders for its cost-competitive Diamond ultra-handymax type. Although a letter of intent signed with China Shipbuilding Industry Corp. (CSIC) during the SMM Exhibition in Hamburg last September had put four newbuilds and four options in the frame, recently confirmed transactions open the way to a 16-ship program. New Century Shipbuilding has been entrusted with four examples of the robust 53,000-dwt Diamond class, and Chengxi Shipyard has been awarded three vessels, and a total of nine options have been taken out at the two yards.
