Stockholm Electric Fast Ferry Routes Announced

Green City Ferries, of Stockholm, Sweden, announced today the first two routes for its electric fast ferry, the Beluga24. Passengers traveling to and from the communities of TÓ“by and Ó¦steråker will be the first to experience the Beluga24s high-speed, emission-free technology."The introduction of our Beluga24 in Stockholm is a major step in reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the region's waterborne public transport system. By demonstrating our emission-free high-speed ferries in Stockholm, we can show that there is an attractive alternative to traditional vessels.

Partners Aim to Disrupt the USV Market

Abu Dhabi based Al Seer Marine has signed a cooperation agreement with Iceland-based company Rafnar to convert Rafnar’s Embla RHIB platform into an unmanned surface vessel (USV).Rafnar began as a research and development company for the ÖK Hull, a hull platform that ensures endurance, comfort and safety for mariners in the harshest of environments by reducing wave slamming impacts. Sevan Marine Divests Stake in KANFA Aragon

Sevan Marine ASA said it has disposed 50 percent of its stake in KANFA Aragon AS to Sembcorp Marine Ltd. for cash consideration of NOK 20 million, representing a step in the company’s efforts to cut costs and complexity while increasing its focus on its core cylindrical hull technology.   The transaction was completed and funds were received June 28, 2016, Sevan Marine said.   The sale will generate a one-time financial gain of approximately $1 million in the Sevan Marine Group in Q2 2016.

First 100% Battery Powered Air Supported Vessel Launched

The result of a five-year-long EU project, the world’s fastest Air Supported Vessel (ASV), fully powered by lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS), has been launched at Latitude Yachts in Riga, Latvia. The new first of its kind vessel BB Green operates at a speed of 30 knots (56km/h) and holds up to 70 passengers plus bikes. It will initially be used for demonstration purposes across Europe. The ASV technology reduces water resistance by having the ship operate on an air cushion.

The OPC Race

Vigor Shipyard’s unique entry into the ongoing U.S. Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Cutter Competition turns heads now, but ultimately may change how we look at Homeland Security on the water – for good. The U.S. Coast Guard’s well-publicized, although clearly flawed recapitalization campaign is alive and well. Spurred by the need to replace as many as 25 medium endurance cutters, the nation’s primary homeland security provider on the water has domestic shipbuilders queuing up to design and build its next generation vessel – the so-called offshore patrol cutter (OPC). At least three shipyards can be considered serious candidates for the first installment, but only one – to date – has succeeded in generating genuine excitement with an innovative design proposal.

Transonic Hull Technology for Offshore Vessels

Hydrodynamics theory establishes that wave making resistance of displacement hulls originate from their body shape, especially from shoulders, midbody, and rear quarter curvatures of their waterplane at the water-air interface.  These curvatures create bow waves, midbody troughs, and stern waves, which set the “hull speed” limit when the distance between bow and stern wave equal the boat’s length (speed/length ratio 1.34).  Above hull speed, resistance grows at a high exponential rate.  Transonic Hull (TH) technology eliminates this problem by using a slender triangular waterplane with apex at the bow, and rectilinear sides, free of curvatures, extending from bow to a maximum beam at the stern.  This shape also generates the sharpest possible entry angle at the bow.

M Ship - Patent for M-Hull Technology

The European patent, titled “M-Shaped Boat Hull,” granted on Sept. 24, extends M Ship’s technology reach to , offering new military, commercial and recreational markets for the proprietary M-hull technology. Under the terms of the agreement with SPAWAR, M Ship and SPAWAR will share information as it relates to the development of M Ship’s proprietary M-hull technology for unmanned surface vehicle applications. The patented M-hull technology is available only from M Ship Co., LLC., through licensing or construction agreements. The technology or specific vessel designs may be purchased by government and military agencies from M Ship Co. under sole-source acquisition contracts.

Lockheed Martin's Sea SLICE Will Participate in FBE-J

Lockheed Martin's advanced hullform ship Sea SLICE will participate as a littoral warfare ship in the Navy's Fleet Battle Experiment Juliet (FBE-J) this summer. Sea SLICE, designated as a High Speed Vessel (HSV) for the exercise, will demonstrate the flexibility achievable by "modularity" in a small, fast, highly maneuverable platform. M Ship Gets $6M Contract

M Ship Co. has been awarded a $6 million contract to build the M80 Stiletto, an advanced technology demonstration craft. It will be used by the Department of Defense to validate high speed, smooth ride quality and stealth characteristics of the company’s patented M-hull design and explore the scalability of dynamic lift technology. The lightweight carbon fiber composite craft will demonstrate special operation capabilities by launching and retrieving an 11-meter RIB, a 36-foot auxiliary craft for Navy Special Forces. It also will launch and operate unmanned vehicles.

M Ship Co. Announces Navy Contract

M Ship Co recently announced the U.S. Navy's Office of Naval Research has awarded the firm a $750,000 contract, including options, to validate the potential of the innovative M-hull technology. The Navy Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract calls for tank testing and sea trials for the M-hull technology, and the development of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools for quantifying the hull's performance. Earlier this month, M Ship Co. delivered the M 80 Stiletto, an 88-foot vessel that uses the patented M-hull technology. M Ship Co. built the M 80 Stiletto for the Pentagon's Office of Force Transformation (OFT) as part of the OFT's Wolf PAC Distributed Operations Experiment, conducted in association with USSOCOM.

M. Ship Launches Experimental Vessel

M. Ship Co. launched the M80 Stiletto, designed as an operational experiment for the Pentagon's Office of Force Transformation (OFT) and an example of the next generation of military vessels that combines new materials (carbon fiber), with a networked architecture and a revolutionary hull. The M80 Stiletto initiative is part of OFT's Wolf PAC Distributed Operations Experiment, conducted in association with USSOCOM, to explore command and control of geographically dispersed, but networked, autonomous and semi-autonomous military forces. This new concept of operations by the Department of Defense is in response to diffuse threats that are perceived as emerging in the future.
