Unified Command Plans for Fuel Removal from Grounded Vessel

The Unified Command discussed plans to remove diesel fuel from the fishing vessel Sea Angels at the Onslow County Emergency Operations Center, Tuesday. The fishing vessel Sea Angels ran aground near Browns Inlet, North Carolina on Dec. 9, 2019.The Unified Command has identified safety of personnel responding to the grounding and the protection of the environment as the top priorities for the on-going response efforts. Ossena to Drive AGCS N. America Growth

Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) said that Baptiste Ossena, Global Product Leader of Hull and Marine Liabilities (HML), will assume additional responsibility as the North American Regional Head of HML, effective April 1, 2019.Relocating to New York from Paris, Ossena will work closely with direct report John Kiernan, the current Head of HML in North America, who will take on the key responsibility for large account management and portfolio steering across the business.Ossena has held his current global role since 2017.

Salvage & Wreck Removal Conference Presents an Upbeat Mood

The verdict at the 5th India Marine Salvage and Wreck Removal Conference of Hinode held this time in Mumbai last week was clear and unanimous. The presentations as well as the deliberations highlighted an upbeat atmosphere indicating the growing prospects for salvors on the India’s 7516 KM of coastline and in the surrounding area. The scenario depicts numerous options according to the presentations which brought out issues and insights that made prospects look bright in the coming months and with the monsoon round the corner, players could finally make it big. The introductory session underlined the fact that India became a signatory to International Convention of Wreck Removal Convention in 2010 and the convention has been in force from 14th April 2014.

That Sinking Feeling

What is the duty of a vessel owner when his vessel sinks and becomes a hazard? What is a facility’s duty when it comes to vessels at their docks? On top of the oil, wreckage, and loss of use, there are legal duties and penalties for parties associated with the vessel – under relevant federal and state statutes – after it sinks. It’s the call that most owners/operators do not like to get: their vessel is partially submerged at a dock or in some navigable waterway and poses a threat to navigation.

Beveridge Appointed Joint Hull Committee Chairman

Effective July 1, 2003, the chairmanship of the Joint Hull Committee will pass to William Beveridge. The outgoing chairman, Simon Beale, will remain on the committee. "I have enjoyed my time chairing the JHC, but it is time for me to step down" explained Simon Beale. "William will make a first-class chairman. He combines a formidable intellect with a fresh approach." William Beveridge is currently the Hull Underwriter and Syndicate Deputy Underwriter of XL London Market Syndicate 1209 at Lloyd's.
