Australian Government Highlights Nation’s Green Hydrogen Ambition
The Australian government has released its annual State of Hydrogen report, saying it reinforces that Australia has the foundations to become a global leader in green hydrogen.The report illustrates local industry is advancing hydrogen as a chemical feedstock and for export to generate electricity, but there’s an urgent need to speed up priority pilot projects and hydrogen hubs to compete internationally.In 2022, more than 100 Australian green hydrogen projects such as green ammonia and green methanol manufacturing were announced.
Australian Coal Exports Disrupted as Deluge Slows Port
Coal deliveries to Australia’s Port of Newcastle, the world’s biggest coal export port, have been halted because flooding in the Hunter Valley region has shut rail lines, with heavy rains also slowing ship movements at the port.Heavy rains along Australia’s east coast over several days have caused the worst flooding in half a century, with thousands of people being forced to evacuate their homes.
Newcastle Coal terminal extension project evaluation
Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) has commenced the evaluation of an extension to its Kooragang coal terminal at the Port of Newcastle. The proposed Terminal 4 (T4) Project expansion has reached Feasibility Study level and environmental approval is expected within 2014. It seeks to meet the increasing overseas demand for energy, ongoing expansion of the coal industry in the Hunter Valley, and PWCS obligation to clients.
