Tom Cruise Visits Aircraft Carrier USS George H.W. Bush

One of Hollywood's biggest stars recently paid a visit to U.S. Navy sailors aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77).Top Gun: Maverick producer and star Tom Cruise was joined by writer and producer Christopher McQuarrie, and editor Eddie Hamilton, along with Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham, for the stop. USS Farragut Deploys with George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group

US Navy's Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Farragut (DDG 99) deployed as part of the George H.W. George H.W. Bush CSG Conducts OIR Missions Against ISIS

The George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (CSG) is currently launching missions against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in support of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) from the Arabian Gulf. Rear Adm. Kenneth R. Whitesell, commander, CSG 2, said the missions are part of the key to accelerating the fight against ISIS. "The superb efforts made by the men and women of this strike group will be critical to continuing this fight," said Whitesell. "The George H.W. Whitesell credited the strike group's readiness on the extensive training leading up to deployment. "This is what we've been training for," said Whitesell. U.S. Carrier Group Ends 7-month Tour

The George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWB CSG) transited through the Suez Canal marking the end of more than seven months of Maritime Security Operations (MSO) in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations (AOO), Oct. 27. Commanded by Rear Adm. DeWolfe Miller, GHWB CSG comprises aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), Carrier Air Wing 8 (CVW 8), Destroyer Squadron 22 (CDS 22), guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun (DDG 103) and guided-missile destroyer USS Roosevelt (DDG 80). GHWB CSG deployed Feb. 15 from homeports in Norfolk, Virginia, Mayport, Florida, and Whidbey Island, Washington, as part of a routine deployment of forces.

USS Truxtun Change of Command

Guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun (DDG 103) has left the Royal Jordanian Naval Base, just outside of Aqaba, Jordan, following a four-day logistics stop, and a change of command. The Navy informs that in the change of command ceremony former executive officer Cmdr. Drew Bates assumed command. While in port, Truxtun Sailors enjoyed a series of Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) tours, including one to the ancient city of Petra. "It was an excellent opportunity for our Sailors to get a look at sites as historic as those here in Jordan," Bates said. "We are grateful for the warm welcome and the support we've received". Truxtun is deployed as part of the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S.

U.S. Forces Board Seized Tanker Ship

American forces yesterday boarded and took control of a commercial tanker ship, Morning Glory, that was seized earlier this month by three armed Libyans, Pentagon Press Secretary Navy Rear Adm. John Kirby said in a Defense Department news release issued today. "No one was hurt tonight when U.S. forces, at the request of both the Libyan and Cypriot governments, boarded and took control of the commercial tanker ‘Morning Glory,’ a stateless vessel seized earlier this month by three armed Libyans,” Kirby said in the release. The boarding operation, approved by President Barack Obama and conducted just after 10 p.m. EDT on March 16 in international waters southeast of Cyprus, was executed by a team of U.S. Navy SEALs attached to Special Operations Command Europe, Kirby added.

US Warship Heading for Black Sea

The Navy informs that the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer 'USS Truxtun' (DDG 103) has departed Souda Bay, Greece, en route to conduct combined training and theater security cooperation engagements in the Black Sea with Romanian and Bulgarian Naval forces. The visit of the warship to waters in the vicinity of the troubled Ukraine/Crimea region was scheduled in advance the Navy explains in a news release. Truxtun, with a crew of approximately 300 Sailors, is currently on a scheduled deployment as part of the George H.W.
