Optimarin Acquires Hyde Marine Business from De Nora

Optimarin AS, a Norwegian supplier of ballast water treatment systems (BWTS), announced it has agreed to acquire the Hyde Marine UV business from the Italian multinational Industrie De Nora S.p.A.

De Nora Acquires Hyde Marine

De Nora said it has acquired Calgon Carbon Corporation's UV Technologies Division (CCUV), including the products, brands and assets of UV ballast water management systems (BWMS) manufacturer Hyde Marine as well as municipal and industrial water treatment brands RAYOX, SENTINEL and C3 SERIES UV.The acquisition was signed on June 7 and is expected to close on July 1, De Nora said.By combining De Nora BALPURE electrolytic disinfection (EC) BWMS and the Hyde Marine ultra-violet (UV) Hyde GUARDIAN BWMS, De Nora will offer both UV and EC BWMS over a full range of flows.

Hyde Marine to Present on BWTS at Nor-Shipping

Hyde Marine, Inc., announced it will attend Nor-Shipping 2015, June 2-5, held at the Norges Varemesse in Oslo, Norway. The marine technology company will present at BIMCO'S Driving Maritime Environmental & Efficiency Management Seminar, June 2. Hyde Marine, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Calgon Carbon Corporation, has been selected as a strategic supply partner for ballast water treatment (BWT) systems by Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) for use on ECO’s fleet of vessels. The chemical free Hyde Guardian Gold BWT system, which has both International Maritime Organization (IMO) Type Approval and United States Coast Guard (USCG) Alternative Management System (AMS) approval, uses efficient filtration and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection to treat ships' ballast water to prevent the spread of invasive species from port to port.

Hyde Marine to Implement NIOZ System Testing

Hyde Marine, Inc. announced today it will begin using a new ballast water test system, B-box, recently made available from the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) to help ballast water treatment (BWT) technology companies conduct accurate analysis regarding the concentrations of chemicals or organisms present in ballast water. Hyde Marine, Goltens Enter Engineering Agreement

Hyde Marine, Inc., announced today it has launched an agreement with Goltens Green Technologies division to help shipowners determine how to best fit the chemical free Hyde GUARDIAN Gold Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS) onto its existing vessels. Hyde Marine’s partnership with Goltens will allow shipowners to benefit from precision 3D laser scanning and modeling, which helps eliminate complications during the BWTS installation process on existing vessels. Hyde Marine Makes BWTS Installation Agreements

Hyde Marine is partnering with Grand Bahama Shipyard (GBS) for installation of the Hyde GUARDIAN Gold BWTS, for vessels docking at the yard. GBS, based in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, is one of the largest ship repair companies in the region with three floating docks for the drydocking and repair of all types of oceangoing vessels, and all the necessary support services required to perform complex repair, upgrade and conversion projects. SeaKing Electrical Strikes Transatlantic Service Agreement

Merseyside based SeaKing Electrical has secured a transatlantic service agreement with a manufacturer of green technology for the maritime sector. The Birkenhead and Aberdeen business will be supporting Hyde Marine Inc. with its delivery of Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS). Hyde Marine is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S., where the company designs and manufactures the Hyde Guardian GoldTM BWTS that combines efficient filtration and Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection of seawater. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the New York Stock Exchange listed Calgon Carbon Corporation (NYSE: CCC). Hyde Posts Record Delivery, Commissioning and Sales

Hyde Marine, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Calgon Carbon Corporation (CCC), announced it has delivered more than 200 Hyde GUARDIAN Ballast Water Treatment (BWT) Systems and commissioned more than 100 for operation on a variety of vessels around the world, based on sales of more than 275 units. W&O caps a busy year with two additional deals intended to penetrate the busy offshore markets with cutting edge products. For many, the recently announced W&O Supply partnership agreements might come as just another piece of news in the busy marine markets. For starters, however, W&O Supply is now the exclusive sales agent for PG Marine Group – Ing Per Gjerdrum AS – in North America. Separately, Bestobell Valves, part of the President Engineering Group (PEGL), also named W&O Supply as its exclusive distributor for Bestobell Valves in North America. Finally, and in concert with PG Marine in a 3-way partnership, W&O was also named as the exclusive North American sales distributor for the Hyde GUARDIAN Ballast Water Treatment solution (BWTS) to the marine industry.

U.S. Coast Guard Accepts Nine BWTS as AMS

Followers of the Ballast Water Treatement System (BWTS) situation (ie. presumably anyone reading this publication) were heartened last month when the U.S Coast Guard announced its acceptance of nine BWTS as Alternate Management Systems (AMS), helping to finally bring some clarity to ship owners, yards and suppliers. On April 15, 2013, the USCG announced the acceptance of the ballast water treatment systems as AMS in compliance with the service’s March 2012 final rule for Standards for Living Organisms in Ships’ Ballast Water Discharged (SLOSBWD) in U.S. waters.

While much of the focus on Ballast Water Management issues is on the big ship, blue water fleet, there is a growing large need for BWMS on large modern offshore vessels, too. Hyde Marine has long been active in the worldwide effort to control the spread of aquatic invasive species in ballast water. Early on, Hyde supplied the first fully operational shipboard Ballast Water Treatment system. In 2003, after requirements were better defined, Hyde installed a state-of-the-art filtration and UV disinfection system aboard the Coral Princess.

The Ballast Water Treatment Solution

Early planning, engagement with competent partners will be the key to timely compliance. The May announcement that W&O Supply had been named as the exclusive distributor of Hyde Marine’s GUARDIAN Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWT) in the U.S. and Canada may seem like routine news.
