Red Rock to Supply Cranes for New Nexans Aurora Cable Layer

Norwegian offshore crane supplier Red Rock has been hired once again by Ulstein Verft to deliver upgraded crane package for a new and updated version of the DP3 cable laying vessel (CLV) Nexans Aurora.The cable-laying vessel will feature a split turntable on deck capable of holding up to 10,000t of cable, an under-deck turntable with a 3,500t cable capacity.It will be one of the world’s most advanced cable layer vessels, measuring 31 meters in width and 149.9 meters in length.

Kongsberg Propellers for Spanish Navy Frigates

Norwegian maritime equipment and systems provider Kongsberg Maritime has won a contract to deliver propeller systems for five F110 frigates, currently in construction for the Spanish Navy. PG Flow to Supply Mud Agitators for MMA

Australian provider of marine solutions and expertise to the offshore oil and gas industry, MMA Offshore orders mud agitators for its AHTS MMA Chieftain, which is operating in the Middle East region.Norwegian pump and liquid handling specialist PG Flow Solutions will supply a set of PG-Submix 80 hydraulically driven mud agitators to the AHTS (anchor handling tug supply vessel), plus hydraulic power unit and control system. This proven solution meets with the stringent demands of Saudi Aramco, in the most efficient way available.MMA Chieftain is one of several OSVs being retrofitted with these solutions, said a press release.The MMA Chieftain is a key marine asset for MMA in the Middle East region.

Dive Support Vessel Delivered to Stapem Offshore

The first of two new 18-meter catamaran dive support vessels built for Paris-based Stapem Offshore has been delivered by South African shipbuilder Legacy Marine Group. The Marshal Island-flagged vessel, Stapem Beluga, will operate in the coastal waters of Angola in support of oil and gas exploration and production. The vessel, designed by Incat Crowther, has been customized to suit Stapem’s specific operational requirements. The aft exterior deck utilizes available space by combining deck lockers and racks for diving equipment storage with a covered dive prepping area.

Massachusetts Takes Delivery of New Fast Ferry

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has taken delivery of Champion, the first of two new 150-passenger, high-speed catamarans built by Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation. The new vessels – funded by a grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) – will operate year-round commuter service in Boston Harbor, in addition to two high-speed ferries built by the Somerset, Mass., shipyard in 1997. Designed by Incat Crowther, the all-aluminum ferry is 90 feet LOA, 28.8 feet abeam, and draws approximately four feet loaded.

Oil Spill Response: USCG Testing Evolves

Coast Guard R&D Center’s JMTF is a big part of the nation’s environmental research efforts. In 1972, the U.S. Coast Guard Research and Development Center (RDC) established the Fire and Safety Test Detachment (FSTD), which later became the Joint Maritime Test Facility (JMTF), at Coast Guard Sector Mobile in Mobile, Alabama. As part of the unit’s establishment, test facilities were also built on nearby Little Sand Island in Mobile Bay. Since its inception, multiple retired commercial vessels were used as test platforms ending with the State of Maine, which was removed in 2010.

New from Bosch Rexroth are standalone axes with identical servo-drives for actuators with mechanical or hydraulic force transmission, offering new degrees of freedom for machine manufacturers in finding drive solutions that suit specific application requirements. The versions with hydraulic transmission are provided with their own, decentralized fluid circuit. The installation, commissioning and connection to controls and Industry 4.0 environments via a Multi-Ethernet interface or ProfiBus are identical on both variants.

Incat Crowther Designs 18m Dive Support Vessels

Incat Crowther has announced its recent contract with Legacy Marine Group of Port Elizabeth, South Africa for the design of two new 18 meter catamaran dive support vessels to be built for Stapem Offshore for operation in the coastal waters off Angola. The vessels will feature a customized design specific to supporting offshore dive operations. The aft exterior deck utilizes available space by combining deck lockers and racks for diving equipment storage with a covered dive prepping area. The vessel will have four fold-down dive ladders for water access, three swing davits for assisting divers, and one equipment deck crane for additional operational support. The bow configuration is designed for interaction with personal transfer ladders of pffshore FPSOs and platforms.

Eastern Delivers Factory Trawler to O’Hara

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. delivered the DNV classed factory processor fishing trawler F/T Araho (Hull 175) on January 28, 2017 to the O’Hara Corporation of Rockland, Maine. She is the first U.S. flag freezer processor factory trawler constructed in over 25 years. The F/T Araho will be in service in the waters of Alaska. The O’Hara family and Eastern Shipbuilding are no strangers to each other. The F/T Araho is the sixth fishing vessel Eastern has built for the O’Hara family over the last 20 years. This factory processor fishing trawler is far more sophisticated than the prior five vessels. The O’Hara and D’Isernia families go back to the early 1990s with the F/V Enterprise a Catcher Processor Conversion delivered in 1996.

Vestdavit Offers Speed Boost or Power Saving Choice

Client consultation and a full internal technical review have prompted Vestdavit to refine lifting speed vs power options available across its entire davits range. The boat handling specialist has been focusing on how best to optimize equipment hoisting and lowering speeds within available power constraints, or reduce power while maintaining speeds. “Optimizing the handling speed/power balance is a precondition for our equipment, but customers have different priorities,” says Thomas Nordin, the Vestdavit Senior Project Engineer with responsibility for the review.

JonRie Winch set for McAllister Towing

JonRie Marine Winches supplied its 6th ship set of Full 90 Ton Winch to McAllister Towing of NY installed on their new tug Jeffrey McAllister. The 92’ (30 meter) x 36’ (11 meter) Z-Drive Tug was built by Eastern Shipbuilding, Panama City, FL. The 5,150 HP tugs with a bollard pull of 75 Tons is the latest addition to the McAllister Fleet. The JonRie Series 250 Escort Winch was designed to handle in the Recover mode the full Bollard Pull of the vessel. The winch is capable of 180,000 lbs. (90 Ton) Line pull and makes the winch ideal for Escort Work, LNG Terminals and Ship Assist of the new Container Ships to come through the New Canal Expansion. The addition of the Jeffrey makes McAllister one of the largest fleet on the East Coast with High Horsepower tugs and super duty winches.

Forum Delivers 350th RT Torque Machine

Forum Energy Technologies, Inc. said it has designed, manufactured, tested and delivered its 350th rotational torque (RT) torque machine to TAM International, a globally recognized downhole inflatable packer leader. The torque machine, or bucking unit as it is commonly referred, was manufactured at the Forum AMC facility in Aberdeen, U.K. This represents the sixth unit that TAM has purchased from Forum in three years, and is a testament to TAM’s growth plans, as well as their trust in Forum’s equipment and global support network.

Eight LARS Systems Delivered to the Kuwait Coast Guard

Ending 2016, TBV Marine Systems, part of High-Tech Solutions & Design B.V., has finished the commissioning for eight FRC/RHIB Launch and Recovery systems (LARS) that have been delivered for four new vessels ordered by the Kuwait Coast Guard.  For this project, the LARS was designed to carry a craft with a length of nearly nine meters, with a maximum weight of six tons. For each vessel, the stern ramp was designed to carry two systems, which were both powered by one hydraulic power unit.

Bosch Rexroth Introduces Modular Hydraulic Power Units

Bosch Rexroth is launching a modular hydraulic power unit (HPU) program specially developed for the maritime and offshore market. These power units cover a power range of 350 to 3,000 kW, and have obtained the type approval by Lloyd’s Register. The program starts with a "basic" unit which can be expanded using all kinds of options. MacGregor to Equip China’s New Polar Research Ship

The Polar Research Institute of China has ordered a new 14,300gt polar research vessel. Designed by Aker Arctic Finland, it will be the first vessel of its type to be built in China, though a shipyard has yet to be named. The 122.5-meter multifunctional icebreaker will be able to handle ice up to 1.5 meters thick, achieving a continuous icebreaking speed of two to three knots. It will have an endurance of 20,000 nautical miles and with a full 90-person crew, it will be able to cruise for 60 days without resupply.

Vigor Delivers Two Pilot boats to M.E.

Vigor expanded its growing portfolio of international sales with the delivery of two, 19m all-weather pilot boats to The Port of Duqm Company (PDC), SAOC, Sultanate of Oman. Smith Berger Tow Pins Lead the Way

Smith Berger Marine, Inc. said it has been selected by Edison Chouest Offshore to design and manufacture the Tow Pin Stern Roller units required on its nine new vessels, including five escort tugs and four docking tugs. Edison Chouest is building the new tugs in order to execute a 10-year Ship Escort-Response Vessel System (SERVS) contract with the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, for which the tugs will provide tanker escort and spill response services in Prince William Sound. The Tow Pin unit has the capacity to sustain 250 tons of line tension and features three individually raised and lowered towing pins, one hold down hook and a 14” diameter stern roller.
