Permanent On-site Collision Damage Repair in Greece

In July Hydrex mobilized a team of diver/technicians to Syros, Greece, for a complex repair operation on a 118-meter, 8550 DWT chemical tanker. The vessel had suffered large cracks in her hull plating as the result of a collision. She was not allowed to sail any further. Hydrex proposed a permanent on-site repair using an open top cofferdam. This would enable the fully laden ship to continue her journey. The tanker was berthed in Egypt when another vessel struck her portside hull. This caused a large hole, severe cracks and dented plating.

Underwater Bow Thruster Removal

A Hydrex diver/technician team mobilized to Rotterdam last month to remove the bow thruster of a 300-meter container vessel. The unit needed to be overhauled. Hydrex performed the operation underwater using the company’s own workboats based at the Antwerp depot. This made it possible for the owner to keep his vessel out of drydock. The team mobilized from the Hydrex headquarters in Antwerp after all basic preparations had been made and the needed equipment was loaded onto one of the Hydrex workboats.

Hydrex Completes Underwater Propeller Modification in Cadiz

When a 590.5 ft container vessel suffered severe vibrations after its propeller blades were seriously damaged, a repair was required by the classification society. Hydrex was asked to bring the propeller’s performance as close to its optimum performance as could be achieved while the vessel was berthed in Cadiz. The in-house developed Hydrex cold straightening machines were mobilized from the Hydrex headquarters in Antwerp. At the same time a diver-technician team left the office in Algeciras, together with the rest of the equipment, to attend to the ship in Cadiz. Soon they arrived at the vessel and set up a monitoring station on shore.

Underwater Reinstallation of Bow Thruster

Due to a malfunctioning bow thruster, a 334 metre container vessel had to use the services of a tug boat for port maneuvering, so its owners requested Hydrex to take care of the removal, transportation and reinstallation of the unit. The operation was performed in stages in several locations to allow the vessel to keep to its sailing schedule. Together with all the necessary equipment, the team travelled to Rotterdam where the operation started with a thorough inspection of the bow thruster unit.
