Norway's Myklebust Verft to Build World's Largest Hydrogen Ferries

The European Parliament has officially adopted the Berendsen report, an own-initiative report on “building a comprehensive European Port Strategy” (585 in favor, 21 against, 26 abstentions).The European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) welcomed the support for the strategic and vital role that Europe’s ports play for European society and economy. Port of Corpus Christi Inks Decarbonization Deal

Hyundai Heavy Industries Shares Jump Above IPO Price on Debut

Hyundai Heavy Industries' shares closed 86% above their initial public offering (IPO) price on their trading debut in South Korea on Friday.The shipbuilder, one of the largest in the world, raised $935 million from its IPO, with much of the proceeds set to fund investments in new technology.A total of 1,633 domestic and foreign institutional investors placed bids to acquire shares earlier this month, valuing total bids at 1,130 trillion won ($962.3 billion), according to Hyundai Heavy.The institutional book for the IPO had been 1,836 times covered - the second-largest for an IPO in South Korea

Hyundai Heavy Industries Raises $935M. Eyes New Tech Investments

Propulsion Stays Firmly Based on Diesel Engines

Today, about 97 percent of the 90,000 ships of 100 gt and above in the International merchant fleet are propelled by large-bore, highly charged diesel engines. In the past couple of years, the discussion about alternative forms of propulsion increased, especially on the subject of gas turbines and hydrogen fuel cells (FC). Ships need a propulsion system that can provide reliable transportation from point A to point B within an acceptable period of time - with maximum cargo load, at competitive capital costs, operation costs and maintenance costs - with minimum pollutant emissions. A fitting example for the following consideration is a modern 100,000-dwt shuttle tanker. The transport of a cargo of 108,000 cu. m. liquids over a distance of 10,000 sea miles requires 1,600 cu.
