Danish offshore vessel owner Esvagt has informed that its Esvagt Dana vessel has returned back to the Baltic 2 offshore wind farm in Germany to support wind turbine maker Siemens Gamesa during maintenance work.For the next three to six months, the ’Esvagt Dana’ will connect its gangway system to the offshore wind turbines in the 288MW Baltic 2 wind farm. The Baltic 2 wind farm is owned by EnBW. ESVAGT Steps-up Offshore Presence

The provider of offshore safety and support at sea ESVAGT aims straight for the dynamic market for service operation vessels (SOV) with the newbuilding ‘Esvagt Dana’.When the ‘Esvagt Dana’ entered into contract with Vattenfall on the Horns Rev III wind farm in the middle of February, it was on an atypically short SOV contract, said a press release from the Denmark-based company.All of ESVAGT’s other SOVs that currently service the offshore wind farms in the North Sea and the Baltic are built for long-term contracts for a specific task in a fixed area."The ‘Esvagt Dana’ is a pattern breaker and the choice of SOV vessels available for short contracts is very limited", said Ib Hansen, Head of Commercial at ESVAGT.

Equinor Extends Esvagt Contract

Norwegian multinational energy company Equinor ASA and the provider of emergency rescue and response vessels Esvagt have extended their cooperation in the southern part of the Norwegian sector.The vessel provider said on Tuesday that the cooperation with Equinor was extended by a minimum of three years."Over the next three years, the Esvagt Bergen and the Esvagt Stavanger will be servicing Equinor in the southern part of the Norwegian sector," it said.Eight years of mutual trust and cooperation are about to be extended, as Equinor and Esvagt add a minimum of three years to their cooperation in the southern part of the Norwegian sector.Here…

Finnish Icebreaker Kontio Departs in Bothnian Bay

The icebreaking services provider Arctia’s icebreaker Kontio departed the icebreaker base in Helsinki as the Finnish icebreaking season’s second icebreaker on Saturday 29 December 2018.The vessel headed towards its initial operation area near Oulu and Raahe, where it will begin assisting vessels. Icebreaker Otso, that departed on 25 December, already assists vessels in the Bothnian Bay.“There is already ice coverage in the northernmost part of the Bothnian Bay as well as near Oulu. So far the ice situation has been easy, but as temperatures keep dropping further below zero, more ice will form fast. Some forecasts predict a winter colder than average.

AGR, First Geo to Merge

Norwegian offshore oil and gas consultancy and services companies First Geo (owned by Akastor), and AGR Bidco are set to merge."Akastor AS (Akastor), has entered into agreements with Silverfleet Capital, DNB Bank ASA and Nordea Bank Abp, filial i Norge (together the AGR stakeholders) to combine AGR Bidco AS (AGR) with First Geo AS," said a press statement.The Transaction will be carried out primarily as an asset deal, whereby assets in the current AGR legal structure and three legal entities will, together with First Geo, be transferred to a new legal structure, which in turn will be transferred to Akastor to establish the merged company.The merged company will be named AGR. Akastor will hold 100% of the shares in the company and 55% of the economic interest.

North Sea Port Opens Netherlands' Largest Solar Park

The Scaldia solar park officially opened in North Sea Port, the logistical heart of Europe. Polaris Commences Icebreaking in Bothnian Bay

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered icebreaker Polaris has left its home base in Helsinki on Tuesday to become the third Finnish icebreaker active in this year’s icebreaking season. The nearly 110-meter-long Polaris is the world’s first LNG powered icebreaker, running on both LNG and marine diesel. The vessel will head to Tahkoluoto, Pori, to bunker LNG before joining fellow icebreakers Kontio and Otso which departed on December 18, 2017 and January 9 respectively. “The crew is very excited to begin icebreaking duty after a long summer and autumn,” said Pasi Järvelin, master of IB Polaris.

DONG Energy Chooses Esvagt Castor for Hornsea One

DONG Energy has chosen Esvagt as partner in establishing the first offshore wind farm to break the 1 gigawatt barrier; the 1,200 mW offshore wind farm, Hornsea 1, off Grimsby in the UK sector of the North Sea. The 'Esvagt Castor’ will work as standby vessel and man overboard rescue vessel during the building of the offshore wind farm, which currently consists of a meteorological mast and half a dozen buoys and which, in 2020, will supply CO2 neutral power to around 850,000 homes. “Activity levels in the offshore wind farm are expected to be high in the years to come while the wind farm is being established. We were chosen because of our ability to launch FRBs and rescue people in all weather conditions.

India Organizes Workshop on Coastal Shipping and Inland Navigation

The Ministry of Shipping in India is organizing a workshop titled ‘Promoting Coastal Shipping and Inland Navigation in India’ in Bhubaneswar, Odisha state today. This is the second in a series of workshops the Ministry plans to hold over the next 6-8 months to create awareness about the Sagarmala programme amongst the stake holders and to engage with them. India’s 7500 kms of coastline and almost 14,000 kms of navigable rivers provide the perfect platform for the development of integrated water based transport system for domestic and EXIM freight as well as passenger transport. The promotion of coastal shipping and inland navigation will help to reduce the congestion on the road and rail network.

Navy Handed Over Seychelles Ship Topaz After Refit

Seychelles Coast Guard Patrol Ship (SCGPS) Topaz has completed her Medium Refit and has been handed over to Colonel Simone A Dine, Commander Seychelles Coast Guard by Rear Admiral Narayan Prasad, NM, Admiral Superintendent, Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam on 16 February 2017. The ship underwent a Medium Refit at Naval Dockyard from March 2016 to January 2017. The event was held at Naval Jetty inside INS Circars and was attended by other dignitaries from Seychelles Coast Guard and Indian Navy. The event commenced with the introduction of the Officers and Crew of SCGPS Topaz to Colonel Simone A Dine Commander Seychelles Coast Guard and Rear Admiral Narayan Prasad ASD(V).

DESMI Ocean Guard’s BWTS is ATEX Certified

On June 9, 2016 DEKRA EXAM GmbH issued ATEX certificate for DESMI’s RayClean-EX ballast water treatment system. The certificate covers both the RayClean UV unit and the UV control panel powering the UV unit, and enables both these components to be installed in hazardous areas onboard tanker vessels like e.g. oil tankers, chemical tankers and gas carriers. The filter, valves and sensors in the RayClean system can also be delivered in ATEX certified version meaning that all components of the RayClean system except the main control panel can be installed directly in hazardous areas.

Dual-fuel Icebreaker Polaris Presented at CIMAC

The design and technical features of Finland's newest icebreaker Polaris were presented on Monday, June 6, in Helsinki as part of the CIMAC World Congress. IB Polaris is the most environmentally friendly diesel-electric icebreaker ever built. It uses both low sulphur diesel and LNG as fuel, which significantly reduces its emissions. The special hull form and propulsion arrangement will minimize ice resistance and maximize the icebreaking capacity of the vessel. The main purpose of IB Polaris is icebreaking and assisting of other vessels in ice conditions in the Baltic Sea.

Italian cruise ferry operator Moby S.p.A. has chosen the RINA InfoSHIP software suite for managing maintenance and purchase processes across its entire 13-ship fleet. RINA InfoSHIP Maintenance and Purchase Module (MP), developed in cooperation with IB Software and Consulting, facilitates and reduces the costs of management of planned and unplanned maintenance, stocking and inventory. AEGIS Missile Defense System Performs Successful Test

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and sailors aboard the USS Carney, USS Gonzalez, and USS Barry successfully completed a flight test involving the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) weapon system. At approximately 2:30 a.m. EST today, three short-range ballistic missile targets were launched near simultaneously from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility, Virginia. Two Aegis BMD destroyers acquired and tracked the targets. Using this data, the Aegis BMD ships conducted simulated Standard Missile-3 Block IB guided missile engagements with the distributed weighted engagement scheme (DWES) capability enabled. The first units will be installed on two newbuildings under construction in Korea and China, one tanker and one bulk carrier. The system will be progressively extended across the d’Amico fleet. InfoSHIP EGO is the fleet performance monitoring solution developed by RINA Services in cooperation with IB Software and Consulting. The software has different modules that allow it to automatically collect data on board and benchmark the actual performance of the ship against a target.
