ICTSI Manila Adds More Equipments

The port and terminal operator International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI) said that  its flagship Manila International Container Terminal (MICT)  recently took delivery of another new quay crane (QC) and eight new hybrid rubber tired gantries (RTGs).According to a press release, the terminal has the largest fleet of modern container-handling equipment in the Philippines today with 18 QCs and 58 RTGs.Manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. (ZPMC), the QC is part of the five from ICTSI’s 2018 USD80-million capacity improvement program package. With a reach of up to 16 rows across twin, the new QC can service the largest feeder vessels calling the Philippines.

Upgrades at Matadi Gateway Terminal

The recent call of the 2,500-TEU capacity Safmarine Nuba at the Matadi Gateway Terminal (MGT), an ICTSI Group company, opened the door to major new shipping system benefits for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).Deployment of a vessel of this size unlocks economies of scale as well as provides a cost-efficient means to serve the capital city of Kinshasa given that use of any other port gateway entails substantial additional land transport costs 'dramatically pushing up the overall container transport cost from point of origin to destination,' a statement from the terminal operator said.The transit along the Congo River is also time competitive – it takes just eight hours from the Banana Roads…

ICTSI Australia Secures AUD398 Mln Loan

On July 15, 2016, Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) signed a syndicated loan facility worth AUD 398 million (approximately USD 300 million) with seven leading global financial institutions, namely: Citibank N.A., KFW IPEX-Bank, Standard Chartered Bank as Mandated Lead Arrangers and Bookrunners, Bank of China Limited, DBS Bank Ltd., Investec Bank PLC as Mandated Lead Arrangers, and Cathay United Bank as Lead Arranger. The facility provides significant financial flexibility with long-dated tenors of 7, 10, and 16 years. Finnvera, the Finland based export credit agency, also participated in the transaction by providing a guarantee for a portion of the facility.

APS Technology Group Enters Brazilian Market

APS Technology Group, Inc., a provider of optical character recognition (OCR) and process automation technology solutions for marine and intermodal terminals, announced its entry into the Brazilian market with the award of a terminal automation project at Tecon Suape S/A in Recife, Brazil. Tecon Suape, a member of ICTSI Group, is implementing the APS solutions to support volume growth, reduce operational costs and to meet the Customs mandate to install OCR at its gates. Tecon Suape expects to increase its movement capacity to an annual throughput of 1.5 million containers. This project represents the second in Latin America for APS within the ICTSI group, including Contecon Guayaquil SA (CGSA) in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
