Total, IFPEN Join Forces to Cut Carbon

The French Institute of Petroleum IFP Energies Nouvelles (IFPEN) and compatriot multinational integrated oil and gas company Total announced that they signed a strategic R&D partnership yesterday, that includes an agreement to endow a chair at the IFP School, on carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) and technologies to curb CO2 emissions.According to a press note from the energy giant, the roughly EUR40 million partnership covers a period of five years.CCUS aims to reduce the cost of infrastructure and improve the CCUS chain’s energy efficiency to secure its large-scale deployment. European Consortium Launches 3D Project

A consortium of 11 European stakeholders including ArcelorMittal, Axens, IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) and Total, launched a project to demonstrate an innovative process for capturing CO2 from industrial activities named the DMX project.It is part of a more comprehensive study dedicated to the development of the future European Dunkirk North Sea capture and storage cluster.The “3D” project (for DMXTM Demonstration in Dunkirk) is part of Horizon 2020, the European Union’s research and innovation program.The project has a 19.3 million euro budget over 4 years, including 14.8 million euros in European Union subsidies. SBM Offshore Wins AIP for Wind Floater Design from ABS

The classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has issued an Approval in Principle (AIP) to Dutch-based SBM Offshore for its proprietary wind floater design.The global provider of floating production and mooring systems (FPSO) said that the wind floater is a TLP concept and has been designed for the full life cycle, including in-place conditions, as well as wet tow with the wind turbine installed, and mooring hook-up phase.The AIP demonstrates the successful design of the floater, compliant with ABS’ design standards, said the offshore oil and gas company.“We are very proud of this Approval in Principle and it is a testament to the expertise and innovative spirit at SBM Offshore.

RS Holds Offshore O&G Field Development Seminar

On May 27-29, 2014 in Astrakhan, Russia, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) held a seminar on shipbuilding and offshore oil and gas field development for experts representing RS offices in Russia and abroad. The seminar covered latest amendments to the procedural requirements of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) concerning survey procedure, survey of ships, offshore structures and subsea pipelines under construction as well as documentation control. The event took place on the eve of the new phase of the V. Filanovsky field development, RS taking an active part in this project.

RS Expands Participation in Offshore Projects

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) is to undertake ship construction survey for the Lukoil Group. This project follows the RS effective cooperation with one of the major RF oil companies in developing offshore hydrocarbon resources. RS has signed contracts for the whole range of classification and statutory services under the construction of an offshore salvage ship by Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd in Singapore and two offshore support vessels by Keppel Nantong in China. The completion of trials and delivery of all the ships are planned for 2015. The new ships will join the Lukoil offshore fleet for the northern sector of the Caspian Sea. They are designed to supply and ensure the safe operation of the Filanovsky field offshore development facilities.

Ziff Completes New Study

Ziff Energy Group has completed the 7th edition of its Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Improving Field Performance (IFP) study, which evaluated pre-hurricane 2008 & 2007 operating costs for more than two dozen producing Deepwater assets. Participants included Deepwater operators, who collectively account for 1.1 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (MMBOE/d) produced in the Deepwater region of the Gulf of Mexico. Ziff Energy’s study focuses on offshore fields located in greater than 1,000 ft. of water depth, which encompass the various development systems currently being used in the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico: Floating systems (including TLPs, Spars and Semi-submersibles), Jacket platforms, and Subsea tie-back systems.

Aker Kvaerner Wins Deepwater Contract

Maersk Contractors has awarded Aker Kvaerner Subsea a contract to deliver two deep water drilling risers, equipped with an industry leading connector technology. The contract is valued at $32 million, excluding options, and positions Aker Kvaerner as one of the market leaders in riser technology. The order is for two 2250 meter risers, with options for a third 2250 meter riser and optional additional length for each riser of 750 meters. The risers are designed to operate in water depth down to 3000 meters. The project will be managed by Aker Kvaerner Subsea's umbilical and riser group in Mobile, Alabama, USA, with the first riser to be delivered in January 2008, followed by delivery of the second riser in January 2009. The CLIP riser connector is a proven technology in deep water.
