A shipment of Royal IHC's equipment is traveling from Europe to the U.S. to be installed on Weeks Marine's new trailing suction hopper dredge (TSHD) R.B. Weeks, currently under construction at Eastern Shipbuilding Group's Allanton shipyard in Florida. In May of 2020, Royal IHC and Weeks Marine Inc. entered into a contract for the engineering and equipment delivery for the 6,540-cubic-meter-capacity newbuild, an identical vessel to the Magdalen delivered to Weeks from Eastern in 2017. Like the Magdalen, the R.B.

Historic Dutch specialist shipyard IHC Merwede says it has been awarded the honorary title of Koninklijk (Royal) by the His Majesty the King. In light of this honour, the company has decided to change its name to Royal IHC and will also include the royal crown in its revised corporate identity. The South African company Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has named its 750m3 grab hopper dredger, Italeni, during a special ceremony hosted by the shipbuilder IHC Merwede. The ceremony was performed on June 18 by TNPA’s Supply Chain General Manager, Ncumisa Nkanunu, in the shipyard of IHC Merwede’s partner, MTG Dolphin, in Varna, Bulgaria. The contract for the design, construction and delivery of the grab hopper dredger was signed between TNPA and IHC Global Production, part of IHC Merwede, on January 29, 2013.

IHC Merwede named and launched the 23,545 kW self-propelled cutter suction dredger ‘AL BAHAR’ C/D HUTA 12 in a ceremony on March 8, 2014 at the company’s shipyard in Kinderdijk, The Netherlands. It is building the innovative vessel for Huta Marine Works, which is based in Saudi Arabia. The ceremony was performed by Sylvia Wuebbens, the daughter of M. Wuebbens, the Managing Director of Huta Marine Works. The contract for the design, construction and delivery of the vessel was signed between Huta Marine Works and IHC Holland, part of IHC Merwede, on October 11, 2012.

Dredging concern Royal Boskalis Westminster nv has placed an order with shipyard IHC Holland for the construction of two innovative 12,000m³ hoppers. The order is part of the multi-year fleet expansion program at Boskalis. The ships will be completed in December 2009 and April 2011. The order involves an investment of more than € 200 million. The new ships stand out because of the use of innovative technologies, strengthening the Boskalis market position in the segment for ‘large trailing suction hopper dredgers’. They will have two separate hoppers, allowing for the optimal use of their capacity in all circumstances, including shallow waters. In addition, the pumping capacity on the vessels is high, allowing them to pump large volumes over longer distances.

A mammoth trailing suction hopper dredger, built by IHC Holland NV in cooperation with Van de Giessen - du Noord, was launched earlier this year to rave reviews, and was anticipated to be delivered and working this month. The U.S. Navy awarded the work package on its USS Whidbey Island to Norshipco, a member of the U.S. Marine Repair shipyard family. The contract, which calls for topside phased maintenance, fixed-price availability, states for work to commence on May 24 for a September 1 completion. The work package includes topside repairs, electrical and mechanical repairs, and ship alterations. Specific mechanical repairs entail main propulsion diesel engines, and ship alterations include the RAM Mk31 Mod and Ship's Self Defense System installations. Stratos has been awarded a contract to supply C-band satellite equipment and teleport services for PanCanadian Petroleum Limited's exploration drilling program offshore Nova Scotia.

Imtech N.V., a technical service provider in Europe, has been commissioned by the Jan De Nul Groep and the wharf Schelde Marine Bouw to automate a number of dredgers and naval vessels. The Imtech Marine & Offshore division acquired the orders, worth a total of $15 million. Commissioned by the Jan De Nul Groep, Imtech is responsible for the on-board integrated dredging automation and instrumentation, navigation and communications for two 11,300 m³ Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers. Both dredgers are being built at the IZAR wharf in Bilbao, Spain. The UniMACS® navigation technology (integrated navigation, propulsion, alarm, monitoring, control and communications) patented by Imtech will be installed on these ships.

The Dutch shipowner Wagenborg Shipping ordered two Wärtsilä 46F engines in April for a new feeder containership being built by IHC Holland Dredger BV at the Kinderdijk shipyard in the Netherlands. On its completion in mid-2006, the vessel will operate in the northern European waters. In addition to the two common-rail main engines Wärtsilä will also supply the propeller for the vessel. Introduced in autumn 2004, the Wärtsilä 46F is the latest medium-speed marine engine developed by Wärtsilä. Its main components and systems represent the best-in-class technology, offering high efficiency and record-low emissions regardless of the fuel quality.

Wärtsilä Corporation won a contract to supply two Wärtsilä 46F engines to power an Ice class 1A, 1700 TEU open-top container feeder vessel ordered by the Dutch shipowner Wagenborg Shipping, a member of the Royal Wagenborg group. To be built by the Kinderdijk shipyard of IHC Holland Dredgers BV in the Netherlands, the vessel will measure 547.7 x 77.3 x 25.3 ft. (167 x 23.7 x 7.7 m). Its hatchless design will ensure fast turnround times in port, while a speed of about 21 knots will give short transit times. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in mid 2006 and will be mainly employed in northern European waters. Wärtsilä is to supply the ship with both the two main engines and a controllable-pitch (CP) propeller.

IHC Holland Merwede BV said that its subsidiary Merwede Shipyard received the contract for the design and construction of a multi purpose offshore support vessel for Hornbeck Offshore Services LLC from Covington in Louisiana United States. Merwede Shipyard was granted this order because of its ability to design and offer the vessel including the integration of cranes within the required short delivery time and for a fixed price. The vessel will be built under Yard No 717 and delivery will take place 3rd quarter 2009. Hornbeck Offshore Services plans to deploy the vessel in its primary operating market, the deepwater and ultra-deepwater Gulf of Mexico. While this foreign-built vessel cannot qualify for Jones Act trade, the company intends to U.S.-flag the vessel.

The systems, featuring integrated radar, track control and Ecdis functions, will be supplemented by provision of Debeg AIS, GPS, VDR and SSAS facilities as well as those for GMDSS communications.

On April 28, the trailing suction hopper dredger Marieke, built for the Belgian contractor Dredging, Environmental and Marine Engineering (DEME) took place at IHC Holland Merwede in Sliedrecht, the Netherlands. IHC Holland Dredgers BV and DEME signed the contract for the construction of Marieke in 2005. The construction of the vessel was subcontracted to IHC Holland Beaver Dredgers BV, and the keel was laid down in September 2005. Merwede Shipyard was granted this order because of its ability to design and offer a fixed price for the vessel including the integration of the complete dive spread and cranes within the required short delivery time. The vessel will be built under yard No 712 and will be delivery will take place in the first quarter of 2008. The vessel will be built in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of Det Norske Veritas, to obtain the following notation: DNV X 1A1, EO, SF, Dynpos, AUTRO, HELDK, DSV-SAT. The ship has been designed by Merwede Shipyard in close concert with Toisa.

Reports indicate that Emirates Dredging Company (EDC) has signed an agreement with IHC Holland (IHC) to build a cutter suction dredger and a booster station. The dredger is due to be delivered in 2007 and will have 1,100kW on the cutter. The booster station has 1,825kW on the pump.
