IHI, Vopak Ink Agreement to Develop Ammonia Terminals

AiP for Ammonia Floating Storage and Regasification Barge (A-FSRB)

ClassNK issued an Approval in Principle (AiP) for an ammonia floating storage and regasification barge (A-FSRB) jointly developed by NYK Line, Nihon Shipyard Co., Ltd. (NSY), and IHI Corporation (IHI), reportedly the world's first AiP for A-FSRBs handling ammonia as cargo.Ammonia, which does not emit CO2 during combustion, has attracted attention for its use in thermal power plants and other applications as a potential fuel for decarbonization, while the development of onshore facilities for storage and regasification is a challenge.

A naming ceremony for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier was held Wednesday  at the Tsu shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU) in Tsu city, Japan.NYK and Tokyo LNG Tanker Co. IHI Delivers Drillship Hull to Singapore

IHI Corporation (IHI) announced today that Drillship Hull for Singapore was delivered on December 17, which was constructed at IHI Aichi Works. Drillship is designed for the use in exploratory, completion and maintenance drilling of offshore oil and gas fields. The delivered Drillship Hull is with the length of 242 meters, breadth of 46 meters and depth of 19.6 meters. Drilling equipment will be installed on the Hull in Singapore and the Drillship will be completed after the commissioning.

DNV GL Okays New Floating Power Generation Concept

DNV GL has given IHI Corporation Approval in Principle (AiP) for its FLPS (Floating LNG Power Station) concept. The formal handover of the Approval in Principle took place in Tokyo on July 5. The design has been found to comply with DNV GL class standards and other relevant industry standards. The FLPS concept is a combination of a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) and a power plant. It is expected to be installed in locations where alternative onshore infrastructure is not feasible or commercially viable, while energy demand is rapidly increasing. The FLPS solution is also in line with the worldwide trend for decentralized power generation. It provides the opportunity for the receiving location to take advantage of the availability of natural gas as part of their power mix.

Enseda Shipbuilding & Surviving the Petrobras Crisis

Cathelco Wins Trio of Orders for ICCP Systems on FPSOs

Cathelco have won orders to supply hull corrosion protection systems for three FPSOs. Two of the systems are being supplied to MODEC, while the third will be installed by Sembcorp Marine’s Jurong yard in Singapore. The FPSO Cidade de Campos dos Goyatacazes is being built by MODEC for deployment off Brazil by Petronas. It will be capable of processing 150,000 barrels of crude oil per day, 176 million cubic feet of gas, and have a storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels. Due for delivery in late 2017, it will be positioned in the Campos Basin, 125 kilometers from Macae.

MHI, Siemens JV Starts Operations

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd (MHI) and Siemens AG today announced the closing of their joint venture in the field of metallurgical industry. The new company is named Primetals Technologies, Limited and headquartered in London, UK. With this joint venture both partners are forming a globally operating complete provider for plants, products and services for the iron, steel and aluminum industry. Mitsubishi-Hitachi Metals Machinery, Inc. - an MHI consolidated group company with equity participation by Hitachi, Ltd. and IHI Corporation - holds a 51-percent and Siemens a 49-percent stake in the joint venture. With closing of the transaction, the joint venture will start operations with 9,000 employees coming from both partners.

MHI, IHI & DBJ Join Forces On Investments

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), IHI Corporation and the Development Bank of Japan Inc. (DBJ) concluded a three-way formal agreement today on their respective investments into a new commercial aero engine company, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Aero Engines, Ltd., to be launched on October 1. The new company will succeed to MHI's business in commercial aero engines under a company split action, as MHI previously announced on March 31 and August 28. To solidify its position as a partner company in joint international development programs in the commercial aero engine market - where continuous and robust growth is expected - the new company will focus on improving its financial base.

IHI Wins Order From Chinese Wison Group

IHI Corporation (IHI) received an order for two “IHI-SPB” LNG tanks to be installed in the Floating LNG Storage & Regasification Unit (FSRU) from Wison Group of Shanghai, China (Wison) who is known as the largest private EPC contractor in China. These two tanks will be fabricated at the IHI’s Aichi Works and delivered at Wison’s Nantong shipyard in the second half of 2015. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) inform it has signed a Head of Agreement on joint ownership and 20-year charter contract for a newbuilding LNG carrier with Tokyo LNG Tanker Co., Ltd. Joint Effort Pioneers Large LNG Containerships

United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) will expand its fleet with new super-efficient container vessels, prepared for “dual fuel” through a later LNG Fuel Gas Supply System (FGSS) retrofit after the delivery of the vessels. Through a technical cooperation with Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU) and IHI Corporation (IHI), Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. ClassNK Issues Approval for Friction Stir Welding Method

Tokyo - ClassNK announced that it had issued an approval to IHI Corporation for a friction stir welding (FSW) method using a floating bobbin tool. The approval certifies that this new method complies with ClassNK’s Guidelines on Friction Stir Welding. IHI is considering applying this welding method to the aluminum sections of LNG carriers and/or FLNGs cargo tanks, such as the IHI-SPB tank, which had been independently developed by IHI group at its Aichi Works. Key advantages of FSW are that it does not produce arc and fume at the time of welding and provides relative control over welding deformation. Its application is now limited to low melting point materials, such as aluminum alloy or magnesium alloy because of the friction heat generated in the welding process.
