Eagle Bulk Buys Secondhand Ultramax for $27.5 Million

U.S.-based shipowner Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. on Tuesday announced it has purchased a 2015-built Ultramax bulk carrier for $27.5 million, as part of its fleet renewable program.The scrubber-fitted vessel, which was constructed at Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Japan, will be renamed the Tokyo Eagle and delivered to the company during the fourth quarter of 2022.As previously disclosed, the Eagle Bulk closed on the sale of the Cardinal (2004-built non-scrubber fitted Supramax) in August 2022.

ClassNK Grants AIP for LPG Dual-fuel Bulker

Classification society ClassNK granted Approval in Principle (AIP) for a 180,000 DWT liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dual-fuel bulk carrier concept design developed by Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in cooperation with Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.The AiP was granted to the concept design based on ClassNK’s Guidelines for Ships Using Low-Flashpoint Fuels and its Rule Part GF (regulation for ships using low-flashpoint fuels) incorporating “International Code of Safety for Ships using Gases or other Low-flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code), the current IMO Res.

Mitsubishi Christens Mitsui's LNG Newbuild

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries company based in Yokohama, christened Mitsui & Co.(MOL) liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier named Marvel Heron.The 297.5-meter-long vessel is Mitsubishi Shipbuilding's newest carrier that achieves significant improvements in both LNG carrying capacity and fuel performance through adoption of a more efficient hull structure and an innovative hybrid propulsion system.After completion scheduled in September, the Marvel Heron will go into service primarily transporting LNG for the Cameron LNG Project, in which Mitsui is a participating partner.The christening ceremony was held at the Koyagi Plant of MHI's Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works.

Corona Zenith Joins K Line’s Coal Fleet

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding held a christening ceremony on February 21 for the next-generation LNG (liquefied natural gas) carrier currently under construction for Mitsui & Co., Ltd.The new ship, named Marvel Crane, is a design that significantly improves both LNG carrying capacity and fuel performance due to the adoption of efficient hull structure and hybrid propulsion system. Completion is scheduled for March 2019, after which the Marvel Crane will be put into service, transporting LNG for the Cameron LNG Project in the U.S., in which Mitsui & Co.

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. held a christening ceremony for a next-generation LNG (liquefied natural gas) carrier under construction for TRANS PACIFIC SHIPPING 5 LTD., a joint venture of JERA Co., Inc. One Minato Shines Through Port of Yantian

Ocean Network Express East Asia (ONE EA) has celebrated the maiden voyage of the second of a series of seven 14,000 TEU-class magenta containership of the company, ONE MINATO at Yantian International Container Terminals Limited (YICT).Sailed under the flag of Japan,  One Minato is a newly built 14,000 TEU-class containership which was delivered from Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Hiroshima, Japan on 24 July 2018.At 365.94 metres length and 51.2 metres width, the vessel deployed on THE Alliance’s Asia to North America East Coast trade (EC4 service), made successful calls at ports of Kaohsiung and Hong Kong before calling at Yantian.She will continue her voyage to Cai Mep, Singapore via the Suez Canal to New York, Norfolk, Savannah and Charleston on the United States East Coast.

'K' Line takes Delivery of 14,000-TEU Containership

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd., Tokyo, (“K” Line) has taken delivery a new 14,000-TEU containership, Milano Bridge, built at Hiroshima Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, Japan and handed over on January 18, 2018. Imabari to Acquire Minaminippon Shipbuilding

Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has reached an initial agreement to acquire compatriot Japanese shipbuilder Minaminippon Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The takeover, which remains subject to further discussions before the deal is concluded, would take effect April 1, 2018. Minaminippon’s present shareholders include Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (25 percent) and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (24 percent).

MOL Truth, Japan's 1st 20,000 TEU Containership, Delivered

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL)  announced that one of world's largest containerships, the MOL Truth, was delivered at the Saijo Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (President: Yukito Higaki, Headquarters: Imabari-shi, Ehime Prefecture) on October 31. The MOL Truth is the first containership with a capacity of over 20,000 TEU built in Japan, and the fifth in a series of six 20,000 TEU containerships that are operated by MOL. On October 25, it was named the MOL Truth. The new containership is 400m long, with a breadth of 58.5m, and has a loading capacity of 20,182 TEU. It will ply the Asia-Northern Europe trade as part of THE Alliance.

Japanese Shipbuilders Partner Up

Japanese shipbuilders Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. have reached a basic agreement to form an alliance in the commercial ship business. Together the two companies will seek business synergy and target sustainable growth to strengthen global competitiveness, while also respecting mutual independence, MHI said. The shipbuilders will also work toward establishing a technical alliance to focus on development of new ship designs and technologies, standardization of design and construction, as well as efficient shared use of tools and equipment. The alliance with Oshima follows on MHI’s agreement reached at the end of March with Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
