Diana Shipping Takes Delivery of 2016-built Ultramax

Dry bulk shipping company Diana Shipping announced it has taken delivery of a 2016-built Ultramax bulk carrier.Diana, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, had agreed to purchase the 63,379 dwt DSI Drammen (formerly Nord Potomac) in February 2023.The company also announced that, through the same wholly-owned subsidiary, it entered into a time charter contract with IMC Shipping Co. Pte. Ltd., at a gross charter rate of US$18,250 per day, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties, for a period until minimum April 10, 2024 up to maximum June 10, 2024. The charter is expected to commence on April 15, 2023.The employment of DSI Drammen is anticipated to generate approximately $6.5 million of gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the time charter, Diana said.

HRDD Records Busy Half Year

The uprising shipping market stimulated the ship repair business for yards all over the world in this two years, especially for the Chinese shipyards. The increase of shipping rate for cape size and panamax bulk carriers, particularly the raw material market, consequently caused the rise of ship repair material cost and labor cost. APC Secure Contracts

Ohio-based Advanced Polymer Coatings LLC (APC announced recent cargo tank coating contracts secured for this year and 2003 worth more than $11.0 million. In addition, a further $14.0 million-worth of its technologically advanced polymer coating MarineLINE has been specified for the tanks of more than 25 newbuildings planned for construction over the next three years. The firm orders cover 20 new construction and in-service vessels for a range of chemical and product tanker owners and operators, including Fortnum/Neste of Finland; Simonsen and the Clipper Group of Denmark; Unifleet, Laurann Shipping and the Clearwater Group of Holland; Fairfield Chemical Tankers of the U.S.; Fatoglu of Turkey, and IMC Shipping of Singapore.

Bulk Carrier into Unithai for Fix

The largest ship currently under repair at Thailand’s Unithai Shipyard is the 140,532 dwt bulk carrier Eurydice D, owned by Marmaras. Other ships in the yard include the 35,224 dwt bulk carrier Maris, owned by Trust Shipping Enterprise, Piraeus, the 22,857 dwt part containership Med Lerici, owned by B Navi, World CI’s 3,043 dwt lpg vessel Gas Eurasia, the 22,531 dwt general cargo vessel Everise Glory, owned by Everise Maritime, Kuala Lumpur, and Baba Kaiun’s 10,100 dwt bulk carrier Ayutthaya Ruby. Also due is the 25,486 dwt bulk carrier Maritime Trader, owned by IMC Shipping.

Ship Operator Pleads Guilty and Sentenced

IMC Shipping Co. Pte. Ltd. (IMC), pleaded guilty in federal court in Alaska to a three-count information alleging two violations of the Refuse Act for the illegal discharge of oil and soy beans and one violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act for killing of thousands of migratory birds that resulted from the grounding of the M/V Selendang Ayu on Dec. 8, 2004 in the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. IMC was subsequently sentenced to pay a criminal penalty of $10m. The grounding of the M/V Selendang Ayu spilled approximately 340,000 gallons of bunker fuel, as well as several thousands of tons of soy beans, into the Bering Sea in the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge in the Aleutian Islands resulting in the deaths of several thousand migratory birds.

Ship Owners to Plead Guilty in Ship Breakup

Owners of a ship that ran aground on an Aleutian Island will plead guilty to illegally discharging its cargo and have agreed to pay a hefty fine, reports said. IMC Shipping Co. Pte. Ltd. (IMC) of Singapore will also plead guilty to killing hundreds of seabirds when its 738-ft. freighter, Selendang Ayu, ran aground Dec. 8, 2004, and broke in two on the north side of Unalaska Island, said U.S. Attorney Nelson Cohen. The vessel was carrying an estimated 442,000 gallons of fuel oil and some diesel. About 336,000 gallons of intermediate fuel oil and diesel spilled, along with 66,000 tons of soybeans. During rescue operations, a Coast Guard helicopter carrying Selendang Ayu crew members from the tanker crashed.
