Incat Crowther has been commissioned by Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation to design a new 300-passenger, high-speed catamaran for US operator Yankee Freedom.The new vessel, Yankee Freedom IV, will replace the 250-passenger Yankee Freedom III, which was also designed by Incat Crowther. Like its predecessor, Yankee Freedom IV will provide service on the 70-mile route between Key West in Florida and the Dry Tortugas National Park.The commissioning of Yankee Freedom IV reinforces Incat Crowther’s position as one of the most trusted passenger ferry designers in North America.

UK shipbuilder Wight Shipyard Co has completed its second export order. The order placed by Ultramar, the largest ferry operator in Mexico, consists of two 37m fast ferries which will be transported to Cancun Mexico at the beginning of July.The critical issues for these newbuilds were timely delivery and the weight saving target that needed to be achieved. A high capacity 48m catamaran passenger ferry Ultramar has been delivered to the Mexican operator Ultramar. Designed by Incat Crowther and built by Midship Marine in Louisiana, Ultramar is specifically designed for the operator’s busy Playa de Carmen – Cozumel run, offering high capacity, high durability and a world-class passenger experience. Carrying 844 passengers on a relatively short run, turnaround is paramount. Ultramar is optimized for a fast turnaround with multiple boarding areas over two decks. A pair of boarding ramps is located on the mid and main decks at amidships for passenger loading, while an additional pair aft gives direct access to the cargo room.

Austal Limited announced securing two new contracts for three commercial passenger ferries with a total value of approximately AU$30million. Firstly, Austal has been awarded a contract for the construction of a 50 meter high speed passenger catamaran for Seaspovill Co. Ltd, which operates a number of high speed ferries on multiple domestic routes in South Korea. With a contract value of approximately AU$16million, Austal will construct the catamaran to an Incat Crowther design that has capacity to carry up to 450 passengers, at speeds of up to 40 knots. Incat Crowther say they supported Strategic Marine in their winning technical proposal for the construction of ten 42m Infield Utility Vessels (IUV) for Brunei's PTAS Marine, and the first boat has now been delivered. Strategic Marine called in Incat to assist in their technical proposal for the project, committing to a timeframe of just 15 months from contract signing to the delivery of the ninth vessel. The tenth boat will be retained by PTAS as a backup vessel throughout the contract period.

Incat Crowther is pleased to announce that Veecraft Marine has delivered a pair of 20m Monohull Crewboats and signed a contract to build a 30m Wave Piercing Catamaran Crew Boat. Hot on the heels of delivering Magen Defender and Masud Defender, the hard-working South African yard has commenced construction of a 30m Wave Piercing Catamaran Crew Boat for Africa Diving Service Ltd. of Nigeria. The recently delivered 20m Monohull Crewboats are based on the proven platform of 2011’s Ahuva, also built by Veecraft Marine.

Incat Crowther announced the launch of Red Hook I and Cruz Bay I, a pair 25m Catamaran passenger ferries to operate in St Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Delivered by Midship Marine in Louisiana, these vessels follow on from the successful trio of UltraJet boats, also built by the yard to Incat Crowther’s design. The new vessels have a similar configuration, with a half-height wheelhouse allowing a completely open upper passenger deck. 72 seats are fitted to the upper deck, whilst the main deck passenger cabin is fitted with seats for 131, plus a pair of wheelchair spaces.

While many owners discuss ideas to suitably maintain maritime service while slashing operating costs, Seasteak LLC, owners a 43m fast ferry Wall Street, put words into action with a dramatic propulsion switch that saw the company maintain sailing schedule and speed while reducing fuel consumption 30% and CO2 emissions 50%. Wall Street, a 43m fast ferry owned by Seastreak LLC of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, was originally built by Gladding-Hearch Shipbuilding and launched in 2003, the third of four sister vessels.

Australia's Aluminium Marine is building an Incat Crowther designed environmentally responsible passenger catamaran. The 26m long vessel has been commissioned by Southern Discoveries of New Zealand’s South Island to operate out of Queenstown, transferring passengers to isolated destinations on Lake Wakatipu. The Unlimited is the 20th Incat Crowther design built by Richardson Devine Marine. A 78.7 ft catamaran work boat, the Unlimited was built for Offshore Unlimited, who provide comprehensive offshore services, including oil rig supply, survey ship re-supply and chase boat services, around Australia. The platform is based on the successful Incat Crowther catamaran hull form which has been heavily utilized in ferries, motor yachts and work boats around the world over the last decade.

Florida based operator Key West Express LLC, has taken delivery of its third Incat Crowther catamaran ferry for operation along the west coast of Florida between Fort Myers and Key West. The vessel is a 52m high speed catamaran ferry capable of carrying 513 passengers at a speed of 41.5 knots. The main cabin contains seating for 268 passengers in a mix of lounge, bar and row seating. Catering facilities are a feature of the vessel, which has a journey time of approximately 3.5 hours. A centrally located bar provides full cocktail drinks service with counterside seating for 9. A kiosk, providing pre-packaged food, snacks and gifts is located aft amongst casual lounge and kiosk seating. The mid deck cabin has seating for 147 passengers primarily seated in rows.

Honduras-based operator Safeway Maritime Transportation Co., has just taken delivery of its first Incat Crowther catamaran ferry for operation on the north coast of Honduras between the main land city of La Ceiba and Isla de Roatán in the Caribbean Sea. The vessel is a 150.9 ft. (46m) high speed catamaran ferry capable of carrying 460 passengers at a speed of 36 knots. The main cabin contains seating for 237 passengers seated in rows. A simple kiosk area is located aft along with toilet facilities and a large luggage room. A centrally located boarding station provides quick access to all parts of the vessel allowing the vessel to load and unload efficiently. The mid deck first class cabin has seating for 60 passengers primarily seated in rows.
