Hawaii's Governor David Ige visited Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility December 21 to learn more about the historic shipyard's national security mission and role as the state's largest industrial employer, marking the governor’s first visit to the shipyard since he was elected in 2014. Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) was recognized  by the Virginia Department of Veterans Services for its efforts to hire and retain veterans. Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC), announced that it will locate its new corporate office in Virginia, concluding a search that also included the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia. Secretary of the Navy, Donald C. Winter announced Aug. 19 that Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard won the Department of the Navy's Fiscal Year 2008 Safety Excellence Award. This is the second consecutive year the shipyard earned the DON Safety Excellence Award. In 2007, the shipyard was recognized for achieving elite "Star" status under the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Voluntary Protection Programs. The 2008 award is for "Safety Ashore" in the industrial category. The annual award is the Navy's most prestigious safety award. It recognizes Navy and Marine Corps commands that demonstrate exceptional operational excellence by sustained mission success with simultaneous exemplary safety performance. This is the seventh year these awards have been presented.

The Hawaii State Legislature honored Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (PHNSY) for the first time March 18 with a House resolution and a Senate commendation lauding the Shipyard's 100 years of service to the Navy. PHNSY will hold its official 100-year anniversary celebration on May 13. PHNSY finds its roots in the 1800s, as the world's navies explored and established ports throughout the . Congress passed an Act officially creating Pearl Harbor Navy Yard, , in May of 1908 and authorized nearly $3 million to help build it. Rep. Lynn Finnegan sponsored the resolution, which was signed by all members of the Hawaii State House of Representatives. PHNSY Commander, Capt. Gregory Thomas and four other shipyard leaders were recognized on the House chamber floor.

The USS City of Corpus Christi (SSN 705) project team at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (PHNSY) completed the Guam-homeported submarine’s Docking Selected Restricted Availability (DSRA) maintenance project on Dec. 15, six days ahead of schedule.
