GE and CSIRO’s Data61, Australia's data innovation network, have developed a data analytics solution that will give the Royal Australian Navy greater insights into their fleet engine performance and enhance operational efficiency. GE supplies the Royal Australian Navy with its LM2500 gas turbines that power the Anzac, Adelaide, Canberra and Hobart class vessels. CSIRO’s Data61 has developed an application that will process data from GE engines captured from sensors and use advanced analytics to identify where improvements can be made.

Banned at Sea: Venezuela's Crude-stained Oil Tankers

In the scorching heat of the Caribbean Sea, workers in scuba suits scrub crude oil by hand from the hull of the Caspian Galaxy, a tanker so filthy it can't set sail in international waters. The vessel is among many that are constantly contaminated at two major export terminals where they load crude from Venezuela's state-run oil company, PDVSA. The water here has an oily sheen from leaks in the rusty pipelines under the surface. OEMs Favored for Maintenance, Spare Parts -Study

An independent study for ABB Turbocharging found that 87 percent of organizations work only or mostly with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for maintenance support and spare parts procurement. Benefits cited include reduced downtime and better parts availability according to the Forrester Consulting Technology Adoption Profile. The individuals surveyed held responsibility for maintenance, repair and supplier management in 105 organizations that leverage large engines and capital intensive machinery.

Kalmar Largest Delivery in South Africa

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has completed the delivery of the largest supply of mobile equipment in Africa and one of the biggest reachstackers order globally for Shumani Industrial Equipment, official dealer of the Goscor Group of Companies in South Africa. The order was signed into Cargotec's 2015 second quarter order intake, with all machines delivered by the end of January 2016. A total of 45 units have been distributed across South Africa, including 37 Kalmar reachstackers and 8 Kalmar empty container handlers. The equipment will be utilised for freight depots at inland dry port terminals. Kalmar will supply and maintain the new units on a full maintenance basis across South Africa over the contracted period of five years.

China Marine Giant COSCOCS Strategizes Business

China COSCO Shipping Corp Ltd  (COSCOCS), a new company formed by the restructuring of China's top two shipping firms, was officially established on Thursday (February 18). New Offshore Vessel to be Fitted with Cathelco BWTS

Cathelco is supplying a ballast water treatment (BWT) system for a new offshore vessel built by Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc., for Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC. The Harvey Stone (Hull 234), a Rampage 6400 multipurpose field support vessel (MPFSV), with a length of 64.8m and 18m beam, is due to be delivered in Q2 2016. The Cathelco BWT system is based on a combination of filtration and UV technology and has a capacity of 150m3/hr. Alaska's Biggest Crane Arrives in Kodiak

Matson, Inc., a U.S. carrier in the Pacific, took delivery of a new 65-ton gantry crane to replace one half its size at the company's Kodiak Terminal. The Port of San Diego plays a critical role in San Diego County's economic rebound by pumping more than $7.6 billion a year into the region from employment, sales and purchases of goods and services, according to a recent report.
