Tradepoint Atlantic Dry Dock Back in Action

Tradepoint Atlantic, a 3,300-acre multimodal global logistics center in Baltimore, Md., said its dry dock will return to service this week after last being used in 2017. BAE Systems’ Titan dry dock departed is scheduled to arrive in Baltimore and dock at Tradepoint Atlantic’s onsite dry dock to undergo a five-month-long repair and maintenance program starting Thursday.Used in Norfolk, Va. for servicing ships as long as 1,000 feet, BAE Systems' massive Titan dry dock has a 52,534-ton lifting capacity and is one of the world’s largest and most modern floating steel dry docks.

ESL Shipping Acquires AtoB@C

Finnish dry bulker ESL ShippingLtd, a shipping company fully owned by Aspo Group, is going to acquire all the outstanding shares of AtoB@C Shipping AB and AtoB@C Holding AB (AtoB@C) that offer shipping services. The enterprise value is EUR 30 million. The final purchase price will be mainly financed by Aspo's existing financing reserves, and approximately EUR 4.2 million will be covered by new shares issued by Aspo Plc. The transaction will require the competition authority's approval in Finland to be completed. It is estimated that the transaction will be completed in the third quarter of 2018. AtoB@C is engaged in the shipping business with 30 vessels in size of 4,000-5,000 tonnes. AtoB@C owns six dry cargo vessels in full, and it has a share of 49% of two vessels.

Fincantieri, Mapei Enter R&D Partnership

Shipbuilder Fincantieri said it has partnered with Mapei, a producer of adhesives and chemical products for the construction sector with a business line of shipbuilding industry products, in the field of research and innovation. According to Fincantieri, the strategic cooperation agreement will help it to optimize installation times, reduce the weight of certain materials, improve acoustic insulation by using specific products, develop and extend the use of adhesives products in some shipbuilding applications. AWO, ACC Renew Chemical Shipping Agreement

The American Waterways Operators (AWO) and The American Chemistry Council (ACC) have renewed for three years a Memorandum of Agreement to promote environmental, health, safety and security performance through ACC's Responsible Care and AWO's Responsible Carrier Program. This agreement was originally executed in 2006, and subsequently renewed in 2010 and 2013. The MOA extends cooperation and collaboration between chemical shippers and carriers and provides ACC's Responsible Care Partner companies in the marine sector the option of using AWO's Responsible Carrier Program audit system to meet ACC's Responsible Care certification requirements. Chemicals account for roughly 10 percent of total barge traffic, with 70 million tons moved by barge in 2014.

McClendon Family Celebrates 50 Years

Zach McClendon, Jr. of Monticello, Ark. will celebrate being in the boat building business for 50 consecutive years this September. McClendon, along with his father, Zach McClendon, Sr. and another local businessman, Norris Judkins started MonArk Boat Company in May of 1958 building small aluminum jon boats using a shear and break press provided by Judkins. ESAB’s Florence Hub Undergoes Restructuring

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products has announced a restructuring of its Florence, SC manufacturing operations. By the end of 2009, the manufacture of gantry cutting machines, arc equipment and plasma power supplies will be transitioned to other global factories. The company’s North American headquarters in Florence will remain the hub of the company’s plasma cutting technology business; ESAB will continue to research and develop plasma processes, produce plasma systems, and manufacture torches and consumables. In addition, the Florence facility will continue to manufacture and sell Steel Industry Products, gas apparatus equipment and consumables.

Langh Ship and MacGREGOR Give Presentation

Boxship 2003 focused on operating, designing and securing containerships. Among the invited lecturers were Hans Langh, CEO of Oy Langh Ship Ab, and Kim Olin, naval architect from MacGREGOR (FIN) Oy, who gave a presentation on innovative transport solutions for steel products. B&N Delivers MS Finnpine

As in the case of the Finnfighter, which has already been delivered, the Finnpine is one of a series of vessels specially designed for the transportation of forest industry products. The series will form the base for a new system service between Europe and North America and will also have capacity for containers and rolling cargoes. The efficient cargo-handling system and design ensure rapid, high-quality loading and unloading. The vessel's speed capability and seagoing characteristics will reduce delivery times. This type of vessel has the highest ice classification, which means that ports in the Gulf of Bothnia can be served during the winter season. "The delivery of the MS Finnpine is another milestone for B&N," says the President, Folke Patriksson.

Transfennica Sold To Finnlines

Finnlines Plc has bought Transfennica Ltd. from its present shareholders UPM-Kymmene Corporation (49.9 % holding), Metsä-Serla Corporation (32.7 %), Myllykoski Paper Oy (9 %) and Oy Metsä-Botnia Ab (8.4 %). At the same time Finnlines together with its subsidiaries made long-term co-operation agreements on the transportation of Transfennica’s owners products from Finland to the rest of Europe. The value of the transportation agreements together with the free of debt value of the shares of Transfennica has been agreed to be some $68 million. Transfennica is a shipping company specialized in forest industry products. The company operates a fleet of over 20 modern RoRo vessels. Last year’s (1999) turnover was $187 million.

Distributor for over 10 leading manufacturers of marine industry products, Moody offers technical field services for electric and hydraulic actuators and hand pump stations. A graduate of several actuator and hand pump station manufacturer's training programs as well as the U.S. Navy's class A Service School, Thibault will supervision the company's onboard grooming and repair services, which include: vision inspection to determine failed condition, minor adjustments, written condition reports with repair estimates, and repair with OEM parts.
