Workboat Regulatory Compliance: Boatracs, MCI, Join Hands

Boatracs announces strategic partnership with Maritime Compliance Internationa (MCI)l to provide Subchapter M compliance solution. The two companies are collaborating in the development of a new electronic forms software product for the workboat market designed specifically for compliance management of the upcoming Coast Guard 46 CFR Subchapter "M" regulation. The new product is based on Boatracs' industry leading electronic forms platform, Boatracs BTForms. BTForms is currently in use on almost 200 vessels to simplify the process of collecting accurate vessel data for dispatch, Health, Safety and the Environment (HSE), maintenance and management.

EMSA Updates Chemical-spill Advice Service

The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) reminds of its rapid-response service providing expert advice on chemicals in maritime emergencies. In close cooperation with the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) and the Centre of Documentation, Research and Experimentation on Accidental Water Pollution (Cedre), EMSA created the MAR-ICE Network in 2008. It offers remote product and incident- specific information and advice within 1 hour of the request and more detailed information shortly thereafter. Information provided within one hour includes safety data sheets, and relevant data from international codes & 
regulations; shortly after it provides additional information on product properties from a knowlegeable chemical company (if necessary).

Crowley Promotes Clapp and Brown

Rinus Schepen, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Crowley's Latin America services announced that Rob Clapp has been promoted to Director of Pricing and Yield Management and Brad Brown has been promoted to Director of Finance for the Latin America liner services group. Both will remain domiciled in Jacksonville and report to Schepen. In his new position, Clapp is responsible for all contract administration, pricing and yield management activities. He joined Crowley in 1988 as an accountant in the company's financial reporting department. Since then he has held positions of increasing responsibility within the Latin America liner services group, including Manager of Management Reporting, Manager of Planning and Director of Finance.

JRC AIS System Earns USCG and FCC Type Approval

The USCG and the FCC have awarded JRC’s AIS system, the “JHS-180” Type Approval. Previously awarded Type Approvals by EU Wheelmark MED, UK, Japan and Industry Canada, this completes the Approval process for JRC’s AIS system, making it available worldwide for most vessels complying with this new IMO requirement. JRC’s JHS-180 is compliant with International Marine Organization (IMO) standards: IMO MSC Res.74 (69) Annex 3, ITU-R M. 1371-1, IEC61993-2, IEC60945 and others.
