Port NOLA Bests Container-on-barge Record

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) said 2023 was a record year for container-on-barge shipping.During the last calendar year, Port NOLA marked 20,500 container moves by barge, the highest since launching the container-on-barge network—the nation's largest—in 2016 with the Port of Greater Baton Rouge and Ingram Marine Group. Container-on-barge moves containers by water rather than by truck on roads to reduce air emissions; moving an average of 30,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) per year between New Orleans, the Port of Greater Baton Rouge, Memphis and St. Louis.

Ingram Christens New Towboat Steve Alley

Ingram Marine Group this week held a christening ceremony in New Orleans for Steve Alley, the fifth new towboat in the series of 10 ordered by the Nashville-based operator.The four-decked, welded-steel, USCG Subchapter M-compliant towboat was designed by Ingram Marine Group, Louisiana shipbuilder Main Iron Works, and naval architect Ashraf Degedy, PE.The 78-foot-long, 32-foot-wide newbuild is outfitted with twin Caterpillar Marine tier 3 diesel engines and Reintjes gearboxes, John Deere generators, and 76-inch Michigan special propellers.

Ingram CEO O’Loughlin to Retire; Roberts to Take the Helm

Nashville-based Ingram Marine Group, one of the largest barging companies in the U.S., announced Monday that David O’Loughlin will retire from his role as CEO. He will be succeeded by John Roberts, the company’s current chief operating officer, who will take the helm as the new president and CEO on February 1. O’Loughlin will stay with the company as vice chair for the remainder of 2022 to assist with the transition. “Dave has been invaluable to our company and our people,” said Ingram Barge Company chairman Orrin H. U.S.-based inland waterways shipping company Ingram Marine Group on Wednesday held a ceremony to christen the Adrienne M. Moore and honor of the soon-to-be-completed Tom Cornwell. Responsible, in part, for the worldwide trade of bulk transport, the industry is of great significance to the agricultural sector. In North America, The Army Corps of Engineers maintains and operates over 12,000 miles of canals, rivers, and inland waterways. SCI’s New Chapter in Maritime Training

Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) launched an initiative on December 10, 2014 aiming to transform training for America’s inland mariners at its Center for Maritime Education in Paducah, KY. The day before its 15th Annual River Bell Awards ceremony, the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) pushed the proverbial boat out on a new era of maritime education. In prior months, SCI had installed new simulators and renovated the hospitality areas at its Center for Maritime Education in Paducah, KY. Ingram Barge Order 20 Tank Barges for 2015

Ingram Barge Company say they will be building 20 tank barges in 2015 to meet growing demand for chemical shipments. While most of the company’s recent tank barges have come through acquisitions, this continued expansion in their barge fleet coincides with a 10-year plan that began in 2007 to build barges with Trinity Industries. Ingram's building strategy has been able to maintain their fleet size as barges reach retirement age. This announcement demonstrates their’s commitment to continue building tank barges as part of its goal to meet its growing customers’ demand in the Chemical Liquids sector. Ingram Barge explains that over the past several years, inexpensive natural gas has increased domestic chemical production and demand for new tank barges.

CEACT River Navigation Software Updated

SevenCs and CEACT Information Systems Inc. have announced the latest development of their inland navigation system CEACTTM. The new version includes two new major functionalities. The new version will be available in November 2012. Multiple CPA enables the user to track several AIS targets simultaneously. The operator can toggle between the most relevant targets without re-acquiring. Dangerous targets don’t get lost and the situational awareness is significantly improved. The second functionality not only improves safety, but also allows the user to save fuel.

ECDIS Displays Latest Upper Mississippi River Hazards

CEACT/SevenC's digital chart software displays latest USACE additional rock pinnacles data in the Upper Mississippi. Due to the historical lowest water level USACE has issued additional rock pinnacles data for different water levels in order to continue shipping on the Upper Mississippi, allowing river pilots to navigate safely through dangerous zones. The ‘danger zones’ are presented in red color highlights without cluttering or hiding information on the charts. Since it was launched ten years ago, CEACT® has become the preferred Inland ECDIS / Chart System for leading barge companies such as AEP, Ingram Marine and many others.

Ingram promotes Crystal Taylor to Senior Vice President and Controller. Ingram Barge Company today announced the promotion of Crystal Taylor to Senior Vice President and Controller effective June 1. Ms. Taylor joined Ingram in 1993 as a staff accountant at Ingram Book Company. She transferred to Ingram’s marine group in 2003 as Director of Financial Projects and was named Vice President for Finance and Accounting in 2011. She will succeed Al Oldham who is retiring. Mr. Oldham joined Ingram Barge Company in December 1989 and was promoted to Senior Vice President and Controller in 2002.

Ingram Completes Acquisition of U.S. United Barge Line

Ingram Barge Company today completed its acquisition of U.S. United Barge Line, LLC (“UBL”), a barge transportation company headquartered in Tampa, Florida. The proposed transaction was announced on April 19 and, following the receipt of necessary government approval and satisfaction of other closing conditions, Ingram officials said today they had finalized the sale and that the process of integrating the UBL business will begin immediately. Approximately 300 UBL associates will join Ingram, and 17 towboats and some 650 barges will be added to the Ingram fleet. Orrin H. Coast Guard Recognizes Industry's Environmental Excellence

The U.S. Coast Guard announced the award recipients for the 2012 Biennial Rear Admiral William M. Benkert, Marine Environmental Protection Award for Excellence at the American Petroleum Institute Tanker Conference in Orlando, Fla. The winner of the Osprey award went to APL Co. Pte. Ltd. based out of Singapore in the large vessel category. The winners for the Gold award went to AEP River Operations based out of St. Louis and Holland America based out of Seattle in the foreign vessel category. Ingram Marine Group based out of Nashville, Tenn., Matson Navigation based out of Oakland, Calif., and Marathon Petroleum Co. based out of Tampa, Fla., were winners in the large vessel category. Winners for the Silver award in the large vessel category went to Maersk Line Ltd. based out of Baltimore.
