A2B-online Orders Two 'Green' Containerships

The Netherlands-based A2B-online announced it has ordered a pair of environmentally friendly container vessels at Sedef Shipyard in Turkey.Each of the new 650 TEU vessels will be equipped with a multi-fuel methanol propulsion system, shore power and battery capacity to operate emission free during port and inland water operations.

Russia's Azovo-Don Inland River Shipping Sees Slump amid Traffic Restrictions, Sanctions

Commercial cargo shipments on Russia's Azovo-Don inland waterways have slumped in 2022 to the lowest level on record amid Western sanctions and traffic suspensions on vessels in the Azov sea, Russian Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport (Rosmorrechflot) said. The Azovo-Don waterways are used during the summer period as an alternative to railways for the export of cargoes, including oil products from Russian refineries via the ports of the Black and Azov Seas. Rosmorrechflot said the main reason for the decrease in the volume of cargo shipments was the restriction on ship movement through the Sea of Azov, as well as the sanctions imposed against Russian domestic companies and certain types of cargo.

Royal IHC and KSBL Sign Deal for CSD Builds in Bangladesh

Royal IHC and Karnafuly Ship Builders Ltd (KSBL) in Bangladesh have signed contracts for the design, engineering and hardware of four cutter suction dredgers (CSD). The four mono-pontoon custom-built CSDs (2x 700 mm and 2x 600 mm) will be built in Bangladesh by KSBL for Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) for maintenance dredging in Bangladesh. Tekmar Bags Windpark Fryslân Gig

Tekmar Energy, the developer and manufacturer of sub-sea cable protection systems for the renewable energy industry, announced that international marine contractor Van Oord has selected the patented Tekmar Cable Protection System (CPS) TekLink Mechanical Latch for Windpark Fryslân.According to a press note from the Tekmar Group Company, said Windpark Fryslân is a 382MW near-shore windfarm comprising 89 wind turbines. Kolkata-Patna: India's Second Inland Container Cargo Sector

Patna, capital of Indian state of Bihar, will witness a new landmark in the country’s Inland Water Transport (IWT) sector with 16 TEUs of container cargo (equivalent to 16 truckloads), belonging to food majors PepsiCo India and Emami Agrotech will reach the city's Gaighat IWT Terminal from Kolkata on river Ganga next week.Inland Waterways Authority of India’s (IWAI) vessel MV RN Tagore sailed from Kolkata’s Garden Reach Jetty on December 6th. It will reach the IWT terminal at Patna in 6-7 days after an 815 kms long voyage on river Ganga (National Waterway-1).The cargo will be unloaded at IWAI’s inter-modal terminal at Gaighat in  Patna from where onward cargo will be loaded.

Wartsila Wins US LNG Bunker Vessel Deal

The Finnish technology major Wärtsilä has been contracted to supply its LNG cargo handling system for a new 5400-cbm LNG bunker barge being built in the USA.The barge is being built at the Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding yard in Wisconsin on behalf of NorthStar Midstream. Wind Farm Fryslân Reaches Financial Close

Ten banks and the province of Fryslân are jointly financing the 382.7MW Windpark Fryslân, which is being built in the Dutch IJsselmeer, south of the Afsluitdijk, six kilometers off the Frisian coast.The near shore windpark is being built by Zuiderzeewind, a consortium of Van Oord and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.According to Van Oord, the preparatory work has already begun. India Intros Maritime Technology Center

For Indiana’s state-established, but autonomous Ports of Indiana, 2018 was a record setting year, both for system-wide numbers and among the three individual Ports.
