Telenor Finalizes Comsat Acquisition

Telenor has completed the acquisition of COMSAT Mobile Communications operations . Simultaneously to the acquisition, Telenor gathers all its mobile satellite activities under the new business area name Telenor Satellite Services, and becomes one of the world's largest global mobile satellite operators. COMSAT Mobile now becomes the U.S. Inc. COMSAT Mobile, has annual revenues in excess of $100 million. transaction transfers CMC's operations, including all employees as well as the two earth station facilities in Southbury, Connecticut, and Santa Paula, California, to Telenor. Additionally, in September 2000 Telenor purchased a portion of LMT's Inmarsat shares to become the largest single owner of Inmarsat Ventures plc, holding the maximum permitted stake of 15 percent.

Inmarsat Opens D.C. Office

Inmarsat Ventures plc., announced the opening of their first U.S.-based operations with an office located in Washington, D.C. Inmarsat will execute their North American operations strategy through the new office following the October 2001 legislation extending the ORBIT Act deadline for the company's initial public offering, and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ruling granting access rights for several Inmarsat partners. Inmarsat: F77 Extends Offerings

Inmarsat, the original mobile satcom provider for the maritime industry, has been riding the crest of a wave recently, with users at an all-time high, overall 99.9 per cent satellite reliability and the launch of its Fleet F77, Mobile ISDN and Mobile Packet Data services for the maritime community. Ruth Ling reports on what's new and what lies on the horizon. Twenty years ago, a revolution hit the maritime industry. Satellite communications became available to ships at sea. Back in 1982, when Inmarsat began offering onboard satellite communications, its first and only system was Inmarsat A, which offered voice, facsimile, telex and data services. After nine years of successful service and expansion into most maritime sectors, Inmarsat began offering Inmarsat C.

Invsat Announce Initiative with TeleMedic Systems

Invsat Limited, the VSAT and systems integration subsidiary of Inmarsat Ventures plc, has announced details of an initiative with London-based TeleMedic Systems, a supplier of remote telemedicine diagnostics. The aim is to speed up the delivery of emergency medical care using cutting-edge communications technology that supports TeleMedic Systems technical implementation. Central to this initiative will be VitalLink 1200 - a compact, lightweight system allowing monitoring of heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygenation, temperature and electrocardiogram. These parameters are automatically transmitted by a satellite or terrestrial link, whichever communication is best adapted to the geographical site of the device.
