Balmoral Comtec to Open Composites Manufacturing Facility in Montrose Port. Promises New Jobs

Aberdeen-based Balmoral Comtec, part of Balmoral, has agreed to invest a seven-figure sum to create an advanced composites manufacturing facility on the quayside at Scotland's Montrose Port where large-scale components for the offshore energy sector will be built. The investment is initially expected to create 30-40 new jobs.To house the new facility, Balmoral has leased almost 1700sqm of warehouse space from Montrose Port Authority and will install machinery and equipment required to build and maneuver the massive parts destined for the North Sea and other energy markets.Tom Hutchison…

BAE Systems Awards $129 Mln Supplier Contracts

Shannon Insulation Solutions for Passenger Vessels

Shannon Enterprises of W.N.Y. a designer, and maker of reusable thermal and acoustic insulation, has put in place a custom-designed insulation system for Maid of the Mist Corp.'s two vessels, Maid of the Mist VI and Maid of the Mist VII, to improve engine efficiency, safety and acoustics on board each vessel.As part of a modernization program for the boats' lighting and climate controls, Maid of the Mist's engineering team installed a new generation set - including two, 38 kW Northern Lights marine generators - for both vessels.

IPS Completes Two Ferry Deals for Stena Line

Birkenhead based IPS Marine Fabrications is continuing to ramp up growth in the passenger ferry market after completing work on two Stena Line vessels. The firm, run by maritime engineering specialists Paul Smith and Peter Hillan, has delivered a package of insulation and fabrication work for the Stena Ro-Pax Superfast ferries VII and VIII. All repairs were completed on the move while the vessels continued service between Belfast and Cairnryan in Ireland, ensuring no operational downtime.

IPS Completes Repair Job for Stena Line

Engineering firm IPS Marine Fabrications said it has completed major upgrade work for ferry operator Stena Europe. The company, which is headquartered in Birkenhead, has repaired and maintained fabricated air handling units throughout the Stena Europe vessel. IPS manufactures insulation products, particularly aimed at the marine industry, and has in-house machining facilities. Director Paul Smith said the project was completed while the Stena Europe, which operates between Fishguard in South Wales and Rosslare in the Republic of Ireland, was afloat.

Deep Down, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: DPDW), an oilfield services company specializing in products and services for the deepwater and ultra-deepwater oil and gas industry, announced entry into a conditional purchase agreement to acquire Cuming Corporation. Privately-held Cuming Corporation was founded in 1980 and is a manufacturer of buoyancy and insulation products with a range of deepwater oil & gas industry applications. Cuming's operations are complementary with those of Deep Down's Flotation Technologies subsidiary, which produces syntactic foam products for customers in the oil and gas, defense, scientific and industrial sectors.
