ABB to Power Finland's Two New Patrol Vessels

ABB announced it has secured a contract with Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku to supply an integrated power and propulsion package comprising two Azipod propulsion units and the Onboard DC Grid power system for two new, advanced multi-purpose patrol vessels of the Finnish Border Guard.Due for delivery in 2025 and 2026, the 98-meter ships will replace the outgoing Tursas and Uisko patrol vessels. Alongside the existing Turva, they will guard Finland’s borders, performing maritime rescue operations and helping mitigate environmental impacts.

China's Yantai CIMC Raffles Shipyard has ordered an integrated power, automation, and propulsion system from ABB for a newbuild offshore wind installation jack-up vessel (JUV) being built for the Dutch marine contractor Van Oord.The vessel, Boreas, is due for delivery to the owner in the second part of 2024, and it is said that it will be one of the largest and most technologically advanced hybridized units of the type in operation, measuring 175 meters in length. Maersk Supply Service Nets One-year Vessel Charter Extension in Angola

Danish offshore vessel operator Maersk Supply Service has secured a one-year contract extension for one of its subsea support vessels in Angola.In a social media post on Monday, Maersk Supply Service said it would provide the full scope IRM services for an undisclosed oil major in Angola, supported by one of the company's I-class subsea support vessels.In addition, the contract covers an integrated package of FSV, 2 WROV + Positioning Services as well as project management and engineering services.Osvaldo Sechie, Managing Director, Angola said the contract win gave the company an extended footprint in Angola, a longer-term contract with a valued customer, and ability to continue with the company's local content development plan through its  Cadets program.

Chinese shipbuilder China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) has awarded NOV a contract to design and supply equipment for GustoMSC NG-14000XL-G wind turbine installation jack-up vessel to be built for OHT, a Norwegian heavy transport and installation contractor."In close collaboration with VIND Offshore Installation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of OHT, the design is specifically tailored to create a next-generation offshore wind installation unit with a significantly reduced carbon footprint," the company, which last year changed its name from National Oilwell Varco to NOV, said.

Ampelmann Debuts S-type Walk-to-Work System

Dutch company Ampelmann says it has designed its latest motion compensation access system, the S-type, as a cost effective and safe option in the transportation of workers and luggage to and from offshore platforms. The company, a provider of offshore access systems to the energy industry, is launching the new Walk-to-Work system as an alternative to using helicopters or baskets. In total, the cost of using the system will be around 30 perceent cheaper than helicopters, the manufacturer said. The S-type incorporates a lightweight system that uses a low amount of energy to operate.

DMCA Readies for International Boat Show

As part of its role as the government entity supporting Dubai International Boat Show 2017, the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) is taking all the necessary measures to ensure the issuance of marine licenses to boats visiting and participating in the 25th edition of the Middle East’s biggest maritime event taking place at the Dubai International Marine Club, Mina Seyahi from February 28 to March 4, 2017. The Authority is issuing marine licenses valid for three months and renewable onwards which authorize crafts to sail and dock in the territorial waters of the Emirate of Dubai, in line with its commitment to providing an integrated package of marine licensing services specifically for the upcoming show to ensure maritime safety and operational efficiency along the coast of Dubai.

Iran Calls for Oil Majors to Bid for New Projects

Iran has invited global energy giants to a tender for the development of several of its key oil sector projects. The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) via an announcement has called on foreign exploration and production companies to submit the required pre-qualification documents for the tender as of Monday, 17 October 2016. It is stated in the statement published on NIOC’s website that the proposals should be submitted before 19 November 2016 and that the successful bidders will be announced on 7 December 2016. It is still not clear which projects will be put on tender. However, there have previously been reports that several promising targets – particularly some that Iran jointly shares with Iraq - are expected to be put up for the grabs.

Polar Cruise Ships: Rolls-Royce Signs $33M Deal

Rolls-Royce has signed a contract worth about $33m with the ship building company Kleven in Norway for design and ship equipment to two new polar cruise vessels, with an option for two additional vessels. The contract between Kleven and Rolls-Royce follows the conversion of a letter of intent into a firm contract signed between Kleven and Hurtigruten. Golar LNG Teams Up with Schlumberger

Golar LNG has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Schlumberger to co-operate on the global development of greenfield, brownfield and stranded gas reserves. Under the Memorandum, Golar and Schlumberger have agreed to jointly market gas monetization solutions to owners, investors and governments. Golar will contribute the Floating LNG assets and technology while Schlumberger, via its special project management division, will provide upstream development knowledge, resources and capital. AlphaBridge Installed on Patrol Boat TTS Speyside

Alphatron Marine announced it has delivered its first 46-inch display AlphaBridge for the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard's patrol vessel TTS Speyside. While keeping a 360 viewing field, the AlphaBridge includes an array of functions, all displayed on three displays presented in a fully integrated package. Operating in Trinidad and Tobago, the patrol vessel features a tactical navigation and observation system. All systems work together to allow target motion analysis, intelligence and target alarms, evidently for a quick response to emergency situations.

Trelleborg to Supply FPSO Mooring Systems in Angola

Trelleborg’s marine systems operation has been awarded the contract to supply complete tandem mooring systems to two floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels in Angola, West Africa. The Angola-based FPSO tandem mooring projects demanded solutions capable of performing demanding offshore applications, while adhering to project quality documentation processes and Class rules, Trelleborg said. In addition, the projects also required the long-term provision of technical and field support services.
