Intellian Debuts New Terminal for Defense Applications

Intellian Technologies, a  provider of maritime satellite antenna systems has announced the launch of the GX100PM, a 1m GX terminal specially designed for use in Defense and Intelligence applications. The GX100PM is the 1m military grade maritime terminal, Type Approved for use on Inmarsat’s Global Xpress network. It is compatible with Inmarsat’s Global Xpress ‘SATCOM as a Service’ capability, which allows maritime users to access seamless reliable commercial wideband connectivity delivered as managed service worldwide.

PortVision Vessel-Tracking for Gulf Cleanup Ops

PortVision, provider of business intelligence solutions for the maritime industry, announced that BP has used the company’s PortVision vessel-tracking service and PV-OnBoard battery-operated satellite trackers to enhance and accelerate response and restoration operations related to the April 20, 2010, Deepwater Horizon incident. “The PortVision service has significantly improved how we have managed vessel activity related to the Gulf response and restoration operation,” said Scott Neuhauser, Deputy Branch Director for Plaquemines Parish with BP. “We have worked closely with BP and the Unified Command operations team in support of real-time vessel-tracking activities related to the Gulf incident response and restoration effort,” said Dean Rosenberg, chief executive officer.

Air dropable, ship deployable and multi-mission configurable, big things do come in little packages. Northwind Marine’s unmanned surface vehicle (USV); the “SeaFox” is a little package delivering multiple capabilities for the expanding requirements of fleet and port security. Originally commissioned through the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Tech Solutions Program for towing air gunnery training targets at 40 knots, the 16-ft x 5-ft Northwind Marine Inc. engineered, alternative fuels USV, is compact and capable of carrying relatively large payloads.

Originally commissioned through the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Tech Solutions Program for towing air gunnery training targets at 40 knots, the 16 x 5-ft. Northwind Marine Inc. engineered, alternative fuels USV, is compact and capable of carrying relatively large payloads. "The SeaFox can easily handle 600 pounds of additional gear," said Bruce Reagan President of Northwind Marine Inc. "The surveillance and intelligence applications are endless," he added. The first SeaFox was introduced at the 2003 MACC.

BAE SYSTEMS Completes Sale of Communications Equipment Facility

BAE SYSTEMS North America has completed the sale of its Advanced Systems' Gaithersburg operation to Integrated Defense Technologies, Inc. The negotiated $146 million cash sale to Integrated Defense Technologies was originally announced Sept. 13. Closing of the sale today followed completion of regulatory reviews and approvals. At the Gaithersburg, Md. Operation, more than 300 employees design and manufacture high performance radio frequency surveillance equipment used in signals intelligence applications. Mark Ronald, COO, BAE SYSTEMS plc, and President and CEO, BAE SYSTEMS North America, said the sale was made because the focus and strategy of BAE SYSTEMS North America is moving from component provider - as represented by the RF surveillance equipment lines -- to systems integration.
