Big Data: Top 5 Priorities for the Maritime Industry

Many maritime organizations are already working with ā€œBig Dataā€ or are preparing to start working with it as part of the so-called digital transformation. Dutch ICT company Shipbuilder presents its top five priorities for the uptake of big data in the maritime sector. It sounds so logical but often organizations donā€™t define a goal when they start working with big data. This makes it impossible to determine whether the outcome is successful. Set a clear goal. Decide for example to specify, design, build and maintain ships ā€˜right the first timeā€™.

Voyager Planning Station Adds AtoBviaC Distance Tables

AtoBviaC announced that its BP Shipping Marine Distance Tables are now incorporated into the Voyager Planning Station solution. From this month, bridge personnel can take advantage of the accuracy and quality of AtoBviaCā€™s distance tables, route planning, intelligent data management and quality of compliance provided by Global Navigation Solutionsā€™ Voyager Planning Station, the company said. Routes are calculated by Master Mariners and so provide accurate, reliable calculations taking into account issues such as traffic separation schemes and navigational restrictions.
