Crowley Awards Scholarships to Four USMMA Cadets

Crowley recently honored four U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) cadets with Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships during the Containerization and Intermodal Institute’s Connie Awards on December 6 in Newark, N.J.Cadets Breanna Frank, Nathan Mathes, A.J. Poznanski and Erin Roberts were awarded the memorial scholarship based on their interest in pursuing a career at sea, as well as their service during their sea year aboard a Crowley-owned or -managed vessel.Midshipman First Class Breanna Frank, from Sidney, Mont., is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in maritime logistics and security.

Crowley Maritime Corp. awarded Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships to four California State University Maritime Academy (CMA) cadets at the Containerization and Intermodal Institute’s Connie Awards last night in Long Beach, Calif.The recipients earned the scholarships based on their academic achievement, financial need and their interest in pursuing careers at sea.Spencer Hoffman, a third-year student from Loomis, Calif., is currently a junior studying marine transportation. He serves as a cadet ambassador for the academy.

John Wolfe, CEO of The Northwest Seaport Alliance, received the 2017 Connie Award presented by the Containerization & Intermodal Institute in Long Beach, Calif., on Tuesday, September 19. Crowley Maritime awarded six U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) cadets with Thomas B. Crowley Memorial Scholarships during  the Containerization and Intermodal Institute’s Connie Awards luncheon in Newark, N.J. Crowley’s Jenny Terpenning, supervisor, marine recruiting, presented the scholarships to Midshipmen (MIDN) Stacee Glass, Connor Sexton, John Terselic, Tanner Evans, Dylan Rabbitt, and Chandler Chiappe, all of whom were chosen based on their academic performance, financial need and interest in pursuing a career at sea after graduation.

Crowley Awards Scholarships to Four Cal Maritime Students

Crowley Maritime Corp. presented four California Maritime Academy (CMA) students with Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships during last night’s Containerization and Intermodal Institute’s Connie Awards dinner in Long Beach, Calif. Crowley’s Jenny Terpenning, recruiter, marine personnel, presented the awards to recipients, Christiana Harrell, Bonnie Claire Muchnick, Taylor Sullivan and Alex Yorkman. The scholarships help to further educational opportunities for the students who were chosen based on their academic performance, financial need and interest in pursuing a career at sea after graduation. Christiana Harrell, a sophomore from Big Bear City, Calif., is pursuing a degree in marine transportation with a minor in marine science. She plans to sail after graduation.

Four California Maritime Academy (CMA) cadets were awarded Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial scholarships from the Crowley Maritime Corporation. The scholarships were presented to cadets Andrew Leonard, Griffin Sims, Bonnie Claire Muchnick and Alex Yonkman by Crowley’s manager for marine development and compliance, Vicky Ellis, at Tuesday’s Containerization & Intermodal Institute’s Connie Awards Dinner in Long Beach, Calif. “Crowley is proud to support the education of these cadets and future leaders in the U.S. maritime industry,” Ellis said. Leonard, from Glendale, Ariz., is a senior at CMA.

International Trade and Transportation to Dominate Containerization & Intermodal Seminar

CII to Host Important Panama Canal Houston Event

The Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) organized seminar focuses on the Panama Canal, the update on U. S. export initiatives and breakbulk shipping. Michael Masserman, Executive Director for Export Policy, Promotion & Strategy, International Trade Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, and Rodolfo Sabonge , Vice President of Market Research and Analysis, Panama Canal Authority, are confirmed an luncheon and keynote speakers, respectively. The luncheon will be followed by panel discussions among major shippers, ocean carriers, freight forwarders, railroads and Port of Houston officials. This is the second seminar to be held by the Containerization & Intermodal Institute after last year's  successful "Doubling U.S. Exports—a Reality Check" event in Chicago.

Panama Canal Further Espansion Envisaged by ex-Commissioner

Alberto Alemán Zubieta, immediate past commissioner of the Panama Canal Authority accepts award, looks to canal future. Mr. Alemán spoke as he accepted the Containerization and Intermodal Institute's 'Connie Award' at the annual luncheon at the Newark Club. A construction engineer who assumed the helm of the PCA in 1998, Aleman has overseen the design and present $5.25 billion expansion until his retirement in September. He noted that the present expansion "will not be the last." As the project continues, he noted, the increasing size of new vessels will mandate yet another expansion.

Four exemplary United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) midshipmen were recently honored with Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships, grants which will help support their senior year at the academy. Crowley Marine Recruiter Jenny Terpenning presented Cadets Joshua Beck, William Courtney, Michael Pluhowski and Kevan Stoeckler with the scholarships during the 2012 Containerization and Intermodal Institute (Connie Awards) lunch held Monday in Newark, N.J., an annual event attended by hundreds of maritime and transportation professionals.
