Cosco Acquires Stake in Greek Intermodal Firm

OceanRail Logistics, part of the Cosco Shipping Group, acquired 60% of the Greek railway company Piraeus Europe Asia Rail Logistics (PEARL) as part of its plan to develop its intermodal transport services network.OceanRail specializes in sea-rail intermodal transport with the Piraeus Port as the hub and related logistics business, while PEARL is a Greece-based company engaged in railway operations.The China-Europe Land-Sea Express Line, which starts from the Piraeus Port in Greece and expands to the hinterland of Central and Eastern Europe, covering North Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia, is the third new trade corridor from the Far East to Europe and effectively connects the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and the Silk Road Economic Belt.In 2019…

MOL Promotes 'Project & Heavy Cargo'

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) plans to further promote "MOL Project & Heavy Cargo," its brand for plant/heavyweight cargo transport services. The MOL Group will expand "MOL Project & Heavy Cargo" activities in both Asia and Europe to enhance its initiatives on intermodal transport services for plant and heavyweight cargoes. Cabotage Off the Table in Trade Talks

The Jones Act will not be on the table when a new round of talks on international trade in services begins this fall, according to a draft document prepared by U.S. trade officials outlining U.S. objectives for the negotiations. The document outlines the Administration's broad goals and industry-specific negotiating objectives for the upcoming "Seattle Round" of services trade negotiations under the World Trade Organization, so called because the talks will begin with a meeting of international trade ministers in Seattle, November 30-December 3. The 1994 General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) requires a new round of services negotiations begin by January 1, 2000.
