Abandoned Seafarers Repatriated After Five Months on Livestock Carrier

Thirteen Filipino seafarers, the last of 43 abandoned on two livestock carriers, have made it home after more than five months onboard the Yangtze Harmony.The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) intervened after the ship’s owners abandoned the vessel and its crew in October 2022. At that time, the Singapore Sheriff court seized the Yangtze Harmony on behalf of Glander International Bunkering over an unpaid fuel bill. That began a legal process to sell the ship and pay off its debts

Shippers Focus on LNG, Biofuels, Methanol to Meet Emissions Targets

Shipping and commodities firms will commission more ships partly powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) next year while ramping up trials for biofuel bunkering as they seek to cut emissions from ship operations, senior executives said this week.The shipping industry is seeking to reduce its reliance on oil as it tries to meet carbon emission reduction targets set out by the U.N.'s International Maritime Organization.These include the shipping industry cutting carbon emissions by 40% from 2008 levels by 2030

Cargill Seeks to Boost Ships' Use of Biofuel, Methanol to Cut Emissions

Cargill seeks to boost its use of biofuels in a bunkering trial and plans to order methanol-fuelled ships as part of its plans to cut emissions, a senior executive of the global commodities trader said on Wednesday.One of the world's biggest ship charterers, Cargill has been testing the operational performance of biofuels in its vessels since the start of the year as it steps up efforts to go green. New Project Aims to Capture Carbon Emissions Onboard Oil Tanker

A consortium made up of global energy and shipping organisations announced on Wednesday that they will start a project to build and test a carbon capture system onboard an oil tanker for the next two years.The project onboard a medium-range tanker owned by shipping firm Stena Bulk is targetting at least 30% absolute carbon dioxide capture, or about 1,000 kilogramme per hour, the companies said in a joint press release on the sidelines of the Singapore International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition (SIBCON) 2022.It is being carried out by the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) in Singapore, the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI)

BHP to Receive Three LNG-fueled Bulk Carriers in Next 6-9 mths

Singapore Ramping Up LNG Bunkering Capacity

Singapore Bunkering Hub Ready for IMO 2020

Singapore Launches First LNG Truck Loading Facility

Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd (SLNG) and Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) jointly launched the nation’s first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Truck Loading Facility during a ceremony held on 12 April 2017, at the SLNG Terminal. The launch, which was officiated by Chief Executive Officer of SLNG, Mr John Ng, and Chief Executive of MPA, Mr Andrew Tan, marks the readiness of the facility for operations. SLNG and MPA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Singapore International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition (SIBCON) 2016 to collaborate on the construction of this facility. MPA Tests Joint Oil Spill Response Procedure

The multi-agency joint oil spill exercise was conducted today as part of an on-going effort to ensure our ports remain safe, secure and clean for the international shipping community. Code-named JOSE 2016, the exercise was organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) as part of the closing programme for the 19th Singapore International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition (SIBCON) 2016. Close to 80 delegates from SIBCON 2016 observed the oil and chemical spill exercise today. The ground deployment exercise will test the use of a new modern and efficient system, ‘NeatSweep’ to contain the spilled oil. Over 250 personnel from 28 agencies participated in the table top and seaward exercise that took place around the vicinity of Raffles Reserved Anchorage.

Singapore Continues to Harmonize LNG Bunkering Standards

To develop the world’s first set of harmonised LNG bunkering standards, a network comprising Antwerp, Rotterdam, Singapore and Zeebrugge, subsequently expanded to include Jacksonville and Norway, was formed. Taking reference from documents by organisations such as the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH), the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF), this set of harmonised standards  will ensure that key areas of the LNG bunkering process are aligned across ports carrying out LNG bunkering operations. The standards can also provide a guide to ports seeking to be LNG bunker-ready.

MPA Academy Trains Over 110 Global Maritime Leaders

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s (MPA) training arm, the MPA Academy (MPAA) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), jointly organised the 6th MPLP from 3 to 7 October 2016, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) under the Singapore Cooperation Programme. Since its launch in 2011, the programme has now trained more than 110 senior maritime officials from more than 50 countries. Specially designed for high-level senior executives from maritime administrations around the world, who are at least Director-level and equivalent, the programme this year welcomes 26 new participants from various regions including Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, Middle East and Oceania.

Kuo Oil Looks to Lift Two Iranian Fuel Cargoes

U.S. lifts 2012 Iran sanctions against three trader companies; Kuo Oil seeks to load two Iranian fuel oil cargoes. Kuo Oil, a Singapore-based oil trading company, is seeking ships to load Iranian fuel oil, according to a shipping broker report, now that it is finally clear of U.S. trade sanctions imposed in 2012 for trading with the country. The United States lifted the sanctions on Saturday against Kuo, also known as Kuo International Bunkering, as part of its broader relaxation of sanctions against Iran for compliance with an agreement to curtail its controversial nuclear programme. The sanctions were handed down on Kuo in January 2012 for providing over $25 million in refined petroleum products to Iran between late 2010 and early 2011.
