Alexander Acosta visits APM Terminals

APM Terminals Pier 400 Los Angeles hosted U.S. Secretary of Labor R. Alexander Acosta today, as he toured the world’s largest proprietary container terminal, and met with leadership officials of the International Longshoremen and Warehouse Union, (ILWU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) as his first official visit to an American port operation since being confirmed as a member of the Trump Cabinet in April this year. The Port of Los Angeles is America’s busiest container port, with traffic through the first seven months reflecting a 9.5% growth rate over last year’s port record of 8.8 million TEUs handled. US Port Srikes: Arbitrator Steps In

The ILWU Local 63 Marine Clerks Office Unit (“OCU”) remains on strike at terminals in the Ports of Los Angeles & Long Beach. FMCS Announces Schedule for Port Negotiations

FMCS Director Peter J. Hurtgen announced that he is resuming the joint bargaining sessions between the Pacific Maritime Association and the International Longshoremen and Warehouse Union on Thursday, October 24, 2002. Hurtgen and the mediation team met separately with the parties on October 16th and 17th and will perform fact-finding visits to the Long Beach and Oakland Ports on Monday, October 21 and Tuesday, October 22. Hurtgen stated that he has scheduled two days of negotiations for next week, but talks could be extended.
