Reefer Shipping Exhibit Area Opens at Hamburg Maritime Museum

A new exhibition area on the subject of "Reefer Shipping - Transport of Perishable Goods" is attracting visitors to the International Maritime Museum Hamburg (IMMH). Hamburg Süd History is Museum Bound

Hamburg Süd and the International Maritime Museum Hamburg (IMMH) have signed an agreement to catalog and display the historical collection of the shipping company, which was founded in 1871. Using images, ship models, documents and other artefacts from Hamburg Süd’s archive, the project aims to make the history of Hamburg Süd accessible to the general public in the form of a permanent exhibition. There are also plans to organize a special exhibition for 2021 to mark the company’s 150th anniversary.

"140 Years of Hamburg Süd" Exhibition Opens

From 15 November 2011 to 25 March 2012, the special exhibition “140 Years of Hamburg Süd” can be viewed at the International Maritime Museum in Hamburg. It allows a unique glimpse into the history of the shipping group – with a host of  historical paintings, posters and model ships. Ancient and Modern - Port of Hamburg

Last month saw the encounter of two Chinese ships of a very special kind at the Port of Hamburg. On 19 November 2008 the recently built 10,000 TEU vessel Cosco Indian Ocean, belonging to the Cosco Container Lines shipping company, docked at the HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort. Measuring some 1,148 ft in length, the Cosco Indian Ocean was on its maiden voyage. This was its first visit to Hamburg. The container giant is the third of four identical ships built for Cosco at Hyundai's Ulsan shipyard in South Korea. With a draught of 47.5 ft, the ship has a deadweight of 111,414 tons.
