Serco Canada’s Atlas 120 Frigate Receives LR Approval in Principle
Serco Canada Marine (Serco) has received Approval in Principle from Lloyd's Register (LR) for its Atlas 120 Frigate design.The Atlas 120 Light Frigate is a modern general-purpose surface combatant that spans 120 meters in length. The ship can accommodate almost all standard NATO missile munitions and the Hangar and Flight Deck have been sized to accommodate all NATO medium lift naval helicopters. The ship has a broad range of passive and active self-defense systems to protect the ship from all directions.
Italian Navy Renewal Program Begins
The steel cutting ceremony of the LSS logistic support unit’s bow section was held today at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia. Construction works, therefore, officially started on the first unit, as provided in the renewal plan of the Italian Navy’s fleet, which has been commissioned to Fincantieri. The section is 94 meters long, 24 meters wide, 16.3 meters high, weighing about 4,100 tons. In the coming months it will be launched and transported by sea to the shipyard in Muggiano (La Spezia)…
Petersen to Head Naval Ship Classification Association
The Naval Ship Classification Association (NSCA) has elected Lorenz Petersen, Germanischer Lloyd's Business Segment Manager for Navy Vessels, as Chairman of the Association, at their annual general meeting in Rome. The NSCA is the naval counterpart of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). It represents the classification societies to NATO and at the International Naval Safety Association (INSA), a body made up of representatives from both navies and classification societies, which functions as a naval equivalent to the IMO (International Maritime Organization).
