USCG Makes Plans for new Waterways Commerce Cutter

The U.S. Coast Guard announced its plan to replace the capabilities of 13 Inland Construction Tenders (WLIC) and 18 River Buoy Tenders (WLR), releasing a draft specification with drawings and project peculiar documents (PPD).When Maritime Reporter & Engineering News interviewed Admiral Karl Schultz, the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, earlier this year, he stressed the importance of the Coast Guard’s shipbuilding program in context of keeping $5.4 trillion in U.S. economic activity flowing. “The Coast Guard is building ships. Rexroth Controller Certified for Use on Ships

Rexroth’s controller is now certified for use on ships, offshore installations and in explosive atmospheres. Six European and American certification boards have approved the IndraControl XM22 control hardware for use on ships and offshore installations even under extreme ambient conditions. The certifications include the control hardware, extension modules for the expansion of the communication interfaces as well as application-specific modules of the fast IndraControl S20 I/O portfolio. IndraControl XM is the latest powerful controller with IP20 protection.

SeaProcurement Version 2 Now Available

iMarine Software announced today the release of SeaProcurement (SeaProc) Version 2, the next generation of eProcurement systems specifically targeting the marine industry. “Typical corporate software systems can be expensive to license and support,” said Issa Odeh, CEO iMarine Software. “This is also true of eProcurement systems, even if they are cloud-based. Moving software delivery to the cloud in a Software-as-a-Service (SAAS) model should deliver an equal or better end-user experience along with an overall cost savings for both buyer and seller. We are not seeing this in the current market and feel that this is preventing many companies from moving to an automated eProcurement system. Current systems are either too complicated, too expensive, or both.

Navy Game Solicits Innovative Solutions

Singapore & Malacca Straits Tide Models Released

Recently developed commercial tidal models developed by applied oceanography specialist Tidetech for online viewing. The online viewer – OceanView – is an entry-level version of the company’s tidal models, viewable on any internet browser and on internet capable mobile devices. OceanView offers a highly detailed and accurate tidal current atlas featuring tidal current predictions at 1km resolution for every 30 minutes. Other features include latitude and longitude, place names, scale showing speed of current in knots (no interpolation necessary), and shipping lanes for easy reference.

Online Chart Viewer from NOAA

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, NOAA, surveys and charts U.S. waters, producing over 1,000 traditional nautical charts 3.4m sq. nautical miles. Carriage of NOAA charts is mandatory on the commercial ships that carry our commerce. They are used on every Navy and Coast Guard ship, fishing and passenger vessels. On July 4, NOAA introduced a new public service called the Online Chart Viewer. The Viewer lets mariners display any nautical chart in the national suite using only an internet browser. Each chart is updated weekly for notice to Mariner corrections by NOAA’s experienced nautical cartographers. The Viewer’s fast, image displaying software permits rapid chart display, panning and zooming. The On-line Viewer can be used for voyage planning and research.

Telenor Introduces My Source

Telenor Satellite Services, a subsidiary of Telenor of Norway launched My Source, a new online account management tool giving Telenor users more control of their satellite communications budget. The new tool offers customers of Telenor Service Providers using Telenor's satellite products and services a full range of service management capabilities. My Source enables users to manage the use of satellite terminals and phones, select prepaid plans, automatically reload prepaid cards, and accurately view current call data. My Source also features Web Dial, which allows users to set up calls to anywhere in the world via the Internet. Web Dial permits users to manage a list or group of numbers that are accessed via an Internet browser to establish individual or conference calls.
