MacGregor Deck Equipment for Intership's Eco-bulkers

MacGregor's Deck Equipment For Chinese Shipyard

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has secured a comprehensive deck equipment contract from New Times Shipyard, in China, for Intership Navigation Co Ltd's three new 36,500 dwt Laker-class bulk carriers. The vessels will each feature an optimised MacGregor cargo-handling system comprising MacGregor cranes and hatch covers as well as Hatlapa steering gear and electrically-driven variable frequency drive (VFD) Hatlapa deck equipment. "The MacGregor team supported Intership with its cargo-handling solution development at a very early stage with planning sessions, technical layouts and budget pricing, so that the shipowner could present the new ship concept further to the charterer," explains Hans Berg, Account Manager for Intership at MacGregor.

SpecTec, Corena Breakthrough Shipdex Orders

The three companies Corena, SpecTec Group and Intership Navigation announced the first purchase of the AMOS Shipdex supplied by SpecTec Group and powered by Corena. The AMOS Shipdex Suite is for the production, management, use and validation of technical information developed in accordance with the Shipdex Protocol. It is an integrated suite of software tools giving ship owners and operators the benefits of major cost savings in terms of better data quality and improved electronic use. The Shipdex Protocol contains a set of business rules, especially designed for the shipping community, specifying how this industry shall implement the S1000D specification for the production and management of technical publications.

Transas Simulators for Intership Navigation

Transas Marine, Hamburg (Germany), has been awarded the contract for two simulation systems that will be delivered and installed onboard two ships operated and owned by shipping company Intership Navigation Co. Ltd. (ISN). The K Class Capesize Bulk Carriers MV Lancelot and MV Percival with a capacity of 178.000 dwt each are currently being built at New Times Shipyard in Jing Jiang, China. The vessels are most energy efficient and equipped with unique propulsion aids. The Transas scope of supply comprises the software for an Engine Room Simulator (ERS 4000) and the software plus dedicated hardware for a Navi-Trainer Professional 5000 ship handling simulator.

Shipdex Protocol Ready for Use

The 4th Shipdex Conference took place at the MAN Diesel PrimeServ Academy in Augsburg, Germany on Feb. 16, where the Shipdex protocol was declared ready and available for use. Shipdex (Ship Data Exchange) is international business rules (protocol) -based and fully compliant with S1000D, developed to standardize the exchange of electronic technical data within the shipping community. The Shipdex protocol aims to ensure a high quality of technical and logistical data and simplify the exchange of data within the industry. For application service providers, Shipdex is a basic specification for implementing data interfaces from technical manual solutions to maintenance and purchase or any fully fledged ERP systems.

Raytheon Anschütz IBS for Intership Bulkers

Raytheon Anschütz was recently awarded a contract to supply their Integrated Bridge System (IBS) to two new bulk carriers. The bulkers will be built at New Times Shipyard in Jingjiang, China. The delivery to the Cyprus based shipping company Intership Navigation Co. Ltd., a member of the German Hartmann Group, is scheduled for August and October 2011. The new bulkers, each with a capacity of 176,000 dwt, will be equipped with full integrated bridge systems. The installation of the bridge systems takes place under the combined supervision of Raytheon Anschütz Shanghai and Raytec Marine Co.

MAN Diesel’s First 40-Bore Electronic Engine

MAN Diesel’s first S40ME-B electronic engine has entered service. Yielding 6,810 kW at 146 rpm and an mep of 21 bar, the new engine was built by STX in Korea and is one of six ordered by Intership Navigation of Cyprus to power a series of vessels. The ME-B engine is the prime mover aboard the Pacific Adventure, a multi-purpose vessel built at HuangHai shipyard in China. The newbuilding recently passed its sea-trials successfully. The market requirement for the lowest possible propeller speed in relation to bore size has led to the new ME-B engine having a stroke/bore ratio of 4.4.

Updates on the Shipdex™ Protocol

On October 7th 2008, Digital Ship held its 2nd conference for Shipdex™, a new protocol to provide ship technical information electronically, rather than on paper. Shipdex™ was founded in 2007 by two senior managers of shipping companies, Grimaldi Naples and Intership Navigation, who thought that the industry should move beyond supplying all technical paperwork (including maintenance and repair manuals, lists of spare parts and drawings) as paper documents, which then have to be typed into company maintenance and purchasing systems.

First ME-B Sees Light of Day

MAN B&W S40ME-B engine. The new engine has been built by STX Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. at its Changwon works to the south of the Korean peninsula, and passed its Type Approval Test. The 6S40ME-B is the first such prime-mover for a series of multipurpose vessels of 25,000 dwt currently being built in China by Shandong Huanghai Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., and ordered by shipowner InterShip Navigation of Cyprus. The engine delivers 6,810 kW at 146 rpm with an MEP of 21 bar. The ME-B design is based on the experience gathered from MAN Diesel’s existing MC-C and ME-C engine ranges. To suit the small-bore segment, the ME-B design uses a camshaft-operated exhaust valve and an electronically controlled fuel-injection system as seen with the ME-C range.
