Platts acquires Petromedia

Platts, a leading global energy, metals, petrochemicals and agriculture information provider, announced today that it has acquired Petromedia, a specialist provider of news and analysis for the shipping and oil industries. Great Lakes Towing Hosts Networking Event

The Great Lakes Towing Company hosted a WIRE-Net networking event at Great Lakes Shipyard in order to celebrate manufacturing and innovation in Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. More than 100 attendees gathered on the banks of the Cuyahoga River to connect with other manufacturing professionals, forge new relationships and continue to grow and strengthen the local manufacturing community. In addition to a cocktail reception, attendees received tours of the shipyard and detailed explanations of some of the new services/tools that Great Lakes Shipyard has added to their business offering.

Lockheed Martin Restructures Maritime Unit

In a move it describes to strengthen its competitive advantage in design and integration of combat systems and sensors for maritime and related markets, Lockheed Martin is further integrating its naval electronics and surveillance systems units into a single business enterprise called Maritime Systems & Sensors (MS2). This restructured company, with more than 11,000 employees, has significant operations in Akron, Ohio; Archbald, Pa.; Baltimore, Md.; Eagan, Minn.; Manassas, Va.; Syracuse, N.Y.; Moorestown, N.J.; Clearwater and Riviera Beach, Fla., as well as satellite operations in more than 70 locations, including 22 overseas. A Tale of Tugs of Two Cities

There's N.Y., and there's N.Y., N.Y. They are as unalike as two places can be. One is upstate, the other is downstate. One is composed of small and medium-size towns, the other ranks with the biggest cities in the world. One is a land laced with rivers and canals, the other occupies islands on one of the Atlantic's broadest harbors. Attitudes and styles are different in both places, too. Ed Koch, a television personality who once campaigned for governor, can tell you from experience that a big-city boy never mentions "gingham dresses" north of White Plains. Waterford and Manhattan are a three-hour ride apart, two if you speed, but even the language sounds different in both places. But they both have their tugboats. And everyone loves tugboats.
